Apparently many people in this community wrongly feel that [babies aren’t cute.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=306753) Fortunately, right-thinking people know that’s crazy talk. We know that babies are the very definition of cuteness. They’re cuddly. They have chubby cheeks and precious little noses. In fact, they’re just as cute, if not cuter than puppies (although it’s a close call). I’m not in a hurry to be a dad anytime soon, as my life is pretty unsettled right now, but I’ll always play with a baby if given the opportunity (or a puppy). I smile at babies on the street, and I like it when people bring their babies in to work. So post here if you think babies are cute! ---

The only reason babies are cute is so we don’t leave them outside at night because of the smell. ---

I used to be a baby-disliker, but recently, I got a job working with babies (not frequently, but once a month or so). I LOVE THEM!!! I guess I was just burnt out on babysitting…something I did constantly in my early teens but haven’t done in maybe eight years. Now, I can’t get enough of cute babies. And cute kids of all ages. Infant to kindergarten, they’re all awesome. I want some. Like, a passel of little Frails running around and being cute. Wait…do you hear that? D’oh…shut up, stupid biological clock. ---

Newborns definitely are not cute but as they get older they get cuter. ---

I don’t know if I’d say they’re cute. I do however find them quite fascinating though. Something truely awe inspiring about watching a little human with such a clean slate. How much concentration it takes for them to do somehting as simple as unfolding a piece of paper or put’n those damn plastic rings on the peg. ---

As the father of a 6 week-old girl (and 6 y.o. and 3 y.o. boys), I have to say that they’re cute. But it’s not the way they look that’s cute. it’s the fact that they’re precious, innocent little babies. We look at them and think not “looks like a drooling Winston Churchill” but “it’s a precious, innocent little baby”. We’re wired for that (most of us, anyway). ---

Couldn’t you say that about anything, though? There’s nothing _inherently_ cute about anything we’re “wired” to think is cute. I think you either have that “babylove” thing or you don’t. I do. ---

Well, yeah, now that I think of it. I definely have it. I always see babies and go “aw, how cute!” Definitely a wiring thing, I think. ---

As I mentioned in the other thread, I used to have no interest in babies, kids in general for that matter. I had a low tolerance for children (which was more the parents fault than the kids) and wanted none of my own. Well all that has changed since I had our daughter 2 years ago. I’m a lot more tolerant, and am more easily drawn to others kids. I think babies and toddlers are adorable. You wouldn’t catch me saying that 15 years ago. Motherhood sure changes a person! 🙂 ---

When I was a mean, cruel teenaged phouka, my favorite torment to apply to my mom was to pick up any handy baby, cuddle it desperately and say in a longing tone, “Ooooooh, I want one!” It was pretty funny watching her go from 0 to freak out in .5 seconds. And yes, I still adore babies and would love to have one of my own. Some day. ---

I can’t really say I’m a “kid person”. I don’t really want kids; I’d rather have animals. I do, however, like babies. I think they’re a blast to play with, watching them be totally mesmerized over simple objects, and seeing them learn how to interact with their world. Plus, find me one person who doesn’t smile back when a baby smiles at them. Even a baby that looks like Winston Churchill is still cute when it smiles. ---

Haha, I thought about starting this thread. I used to think babies were not cute, and wondered why the fuss over the mini-churchills, but now I think they are cute once they lose the michelin-man limbs. Small children are cute too. Even when they say, matter-of-factly “I’m doing a poo” (That’s nice to know rianne) ---

I forgot to mention. I remember a while ago when Tony Blair appeared outside number 10 (or was it 11?) with his youngest. I was quite surprised how cute the bady looked. I mean tony and cherie are not oil paintings. ---

Babies are cute by definition. Other things (Hello Kitty, Puppies, Tweety Bird, Beanie Babies) are cute only to they extent that they share certain “cuteness markers” with human babies. Saying “babies aren’t cute” is a paradox. It’s like saying “water isn’t wet”. If you don’t think babies are cute, then it’s clear you don’t really understand the whole “cuteness” thing … .
