I’ll bet you infant mortality is really high, so they can probably use all the baby docs they can get.
His lawyer expects Duvalier will face charges related to corruption and embezzlement related to his time as president. I wonder if charges related to killing will go ahead - assuming the rest of the case proceeds.
Aaaannnndddd . . . Now Aristide wants to come home, too. But he ain’t having such an easy time of it.
First I totally missed the boat on the health care lawsuit.
Then I heard the news that Baby Doc’s back in Haiti and I thought, “Huh -wonder how he made sure he wasn’t going to get arrested?” It never ocurred to me that he hadn’t done something.
I’m not sure he even thought about it. He looks ill in general and his eyes look vacant in the shots I’ve seen of him, and I suspect his thinking is unclear and he just wanted to go home.
I’m entirely speculating, but I won’t be surprised if he wanted to return to his homeland before he dies. Which I guess I can understand, but if he dies in a prison in his homeland, I got no problem with that.
I don’t know if you saw Jon Stewart’s take on his arrest, “…he was escorted by police to his hotel room, a punishment which many Haitians would refer to as the greatest day of their lives!”
Can only mean one thing…he’s found a way to siphon off a good portion of the relief money that has poured into Haiti
Hey, guess what! Haiti’s giving Aristide a passport! ![]()
Aristide returns to Haiti. Just before the runoff election on Sunday. From which Aristide’s Fanmi Lavalas party has been excluded. His presence probably won’t amount to anything, but, this year, you never know . . .
Over $2.5 billion has been donated to Haiti-more from private charities.
No doubt Baby Doc is slavering at the chance to steal some more loot-why else would he return?
As far as i know, the Duvalier family was very successful in stealing money from Haiti-and the prospect of juicy reconstruction contracts, resale of donated food, medicine, etc. would warm the heart of the criminal Duvaliers.
