As far as the 80s culture clash aspect goes, Hot Tub Time Machine actually covers some very similar ground. It’s obviously a very different style of film, but I think it shows pretty well that the concept could still work.
As a side note, just like BTTF it features Crispin Glover as both teenage and middle-aged versions of the same character. The funny thing is that he’s just as convincing as both ages as he was 25 years ago. I swear that guy just doesn’t age.
