Today. Monday, March 22, 2021. I have my first dialysis. I’m scared to death. Or scared to live. Not sure which. I know the ramifications of this. I’ve read the 12 pages of instructions and warnings. Googled til my eyes hurt. My restricted diet is even more restricted now. I’m such a gabby mouth here on the Dope. I’m sure you peeps don’t know this, but I’m a stutterer. When I’m stressed or anxious I actually cannot speak at all. I’m having profound symptoms, right now. I haven’t spoken more than five words in a week. My girls are trying but not very successful in keeping me calm. The only thing is to get through this first time and I’ll see it will be ok. I hope. I need good thoughts and crossed fingers. I do plan on dressing outlandishly so the lil’wrekker can have a happy day. 😏 That is always good for my spirits. ---

It has been my experience that the staff at dialysis clinics are very friendly and professional. If you have the jitters, they’ll walk you through your first day and explain everything to you. They’ll do everything they can to calm your nerves. The dialysis chair is a big recliner, and they’ll raise your feet, lay you back and make you as comfortable as they can. You’ll get through this, and after a few weeks, you’ll wonder what all the fuss was. But let yourself relax. The staff are very professional, and they’re used to taking care of new patients. One tip: take a big warm blanket with you. A lot of people find dialysis clinics to be quite chilly. ---

Oh, god that was not fun. I had many problems. One by one they dealt with them. They told me it will be easier next time. My body has to adjust to this. Today every joint in my body aches. But …on the plus side I got Taco Bell and a real(not diet) coke. They said I could have real soda every dialysis day. Yay! A small victory. I endeavor to persevere. ---

People do bring books and are allowed to use their wireless phones, too. Good for listening to soothing music. And, @Beckdawrek, your body will develop a tolerance to dialysis over time. I found a can of Coke on the side of the road the other day. Can is a little banged up, but its integral. Makes me wonder about that whole thing, how it came to wind up there. And why it sat there for 2 days before I decided to pick it up. I guess I should put it in the fridge. ---
