April, 1982. I was 17, and had some birthday money to spend. I went to the Kay-Bee Toy and Hobby store at the mall, intending to buy a model rocket kit. I took a look at their selection of rockets, saw nothing that appealed to me, and as turned around from that display, I saw, on the shelf, a boxed set for the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.
I’d heard of the game, and as a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy novels, I had been curious about it, so I decided to buy that D&D box, instead. That decision led to what has not only been my primary hobby for the past 40 years, but also was how I met most of my best friends – including the woman who became my wife.
Both, though I drink coffee more often lately. For tea, I prefer either Irish Breakfast, or Bigelow Lemon Lift.
Clementines (and, by extension, most oranges).
