Eddie Bauer does around here, but Maine is a long way to go to get to LL Bean.
I’ve always considered Chrysler products to be crap. They made some fantastic muscle cars back in the 60s and 70s and some since that I liked the looks of but I associate them with rust and trouble.
I haven’t spent a dime at Walmart in at least ten years* and very little in the ten years before that.
*Except once when I was camping near Cleveland TN and went into town for groceries and couldn’t find anything but Walmart. I held my nose and went there.
Note that LL Bean has free shipping with no minimum so you could order just one t-shirt to try out. Also, I think the t-shirt stores that sell customized shirts often use Hanes Heavyweight t-shirts. I had a couple that were great.
Probably the exception rather than the rule, but I know several families (mine included) who put obscene miles onto those ubiquitous late-90s Chrysler minivans. My father’s is approaching 400k (and finally on its last legs with a few not-worth-fixing problems, but still running and making 600+ mile trips now and again). Not without any headaches, but with shockingly few.
I won’t use Tide laundry products. I bought it once decades ago because it was on sale. When my clothes were done, there was a petroleum odor about them, and when I perspired, the back of my neck burned. They may have changed their formula since then, but I refuse to touch the stuff.
I honestly don’t get the hate re Hershey’s. We munch on both the milk chocolate and special dark chips (both found in the baking aisle) when we need a chocolate fix, and neither of us have ever noticed something “off” about them.
Second Reebok. The last pair of sneakers I bought from them fell apart with normal wear-and-tear after a couple of months. I’ve had better luck with New Balance.
If you have a BJ’s near you, don’t buy their holistic kibble. My dogs got violently sick on it. We were given a store credit when we brought it back along with a “oh, we’ve had a lot of complaints about it” from the clerk. If you’ve had a lot of complaints, BJ’s, then why don’t you do something, like perhaps discontinuing it?
We’ve been having all kinds of trouble with our Amana fridge. When we went out looking for a new one this weekend, we didn’t look at any Amana models.
On that note, I’ll never buy another GE kitchen appliance. Bad fridge, bad microwave (expensive built-in, not a cheapo China tabletop model).
They definitely have a vomit-like scent and sourness to them. Honestly, I eat Hershey’s and like it fine, but one day I was eating the plain milk chocolate and, for whatever reason, my nose and taste buds finally glommed on to that strange flavor. I thought to myself, wait, this is reminiscent of vomit or bile or something, do I just have an off batch of chocolate? So I google “Hershey’s chocolate vomit” and discover I’m not exactly the first to notice this. Ever since then, I notice that weird smell and flavor in all batches of Hershey’s milk chocolate (I don’t think I’ve ever noticed it in their other products, just the milk chocolate.)
Gualtney bacon. They come as paper-thin greasy strips of pure fat. I haven’t tried their ham, but it looks very sad in the package.
The clerk has absolutely no power to discontinue an item. You need to go higher up the food chain if you want anything done. The store manager might be able to make a complaint on your behalf, but the clerk really can’t do anything.
My Bad Brands:
-Jimmy Dean Sausage: gristle and bone in fat
-Emeril’s Spaghetti sauce: costs 3X the price of Ragu-not as good
-Hover Vaccum Cleaners (two piece models) cheap and plasticy-although the upright models are good
-Ball Park Franks: they expand while cooking! Can’t be good for ya!
-Colonel Sanders Fried Chicken: greasy and dry, tastes like embalmed
I may be exiled from the Philadelphia area for saying this, but… Tastykakes suck. I think maybe they used to be good at one time.
Of course, they’re supposed to be cheap. On the other hand, there’s Bigelow tea, which I also don’t care for and it’s frustrating because it seems to be the only kind that is carried in a lot of restaurants.
I’ve long been of the opinion that:
•If you don’t buy Scotch brand tape, you might as well not even bother buying tape.
•This rule also applies to Band Aid brand bandages. Curad? Don’t bother. They’re comin’ off in two minutes.
•I also do not care for Emerald brand nuts. Planters or my store’s generic brand, or else I can’t be bothered.
Oh, I know the clerk has no power to do anything about it. We did write to both store management and to the corporate office. Haven’t heard anything from either. And yes, they’re still carrying it.
About 25 years ago, Tastykakes actually were quite tasty. I haven’t had any since then, as I moved to another part of the country and I haven’t seen any of them since.
And Bigelow is much better than Lipton, which is the default tea around here.
Lean Cuisine frozen food. Man, that stuff is terrible. Reading the ingredients encouraged me to switch to organic food. Tastier and better for me.
