There sure was a mighty fine set of sideburns on [General Ambrose Burnside](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrose_Burnside), that’s fer sure. Even worse than mall hair (of the “bird’s nest” variety linked to above), in my book, is [“mall bangs”](http://photos1.blogger.com/img/56/5142/1024/hair.jpg), where the bangs are teased almost straight up into some sort of angry, Klingon-esque, rhino-like appendage. ---

I never knew they had a name other than “hideous”. ---

Maybe it was/is just a local thing (Hello girls from Revere! I blame you for the ozone depletion), but there was/is a style of bangs that is – well, scary. The bangs jut straight out from the forehead, then curve downward about 3-4 inches from the eyes. It’s like the girl is wearing a rake on her head. It’s like a rain canopy. It’s like an eagle’s talon. And I understand that approximately 3487234 gallons of hairspray are needed to keep it that way. In fact, a little googling has turned up the term “Revere bangs”, but I couldn’t find any good photos. ---

[/QUOTE] I KNOW those bangs of which you speak (no, I never had them, though I did sport “mall bangs” when I was about 10 or so). And I think they are regional - I’m from NH originally, and lived in Boston for about 6 years, and saw them frequently. While I’ve seen some leftover “big hair” since moving to MO, I’ve not once seen Revere Bangs. ---
