My salon is Platypus Planet. The owner is the only stylist. He’s a grogeous, straight guy who’s into extreme sports. When I asked about the name, he said that growing up in small town TX and being interested in style made him feel about as comfortable as a platypus. ---

A few gems in the local yellow pages: **Buffi’s House of Flair** - We want to be beautiful before we go slaying vampires. **Cuttin’ Up Hair Salon** - ummm… yeah, cut my hair. **Genesis Hair Salon** - In the beginning there was hair and hair covered the earth. **Hair Creations In His Image By Kawambee** - Oh Kawambee, make my hair look like Jesus’ hair! **Hair Graphics** - Want an avatar in your hair? **The Head Shed** - Hey maaaaaan! **Tanfastic-Tanning, Bath, Body and Hair Salon** - This just sounds dirty. **The Hair Sanctuary** - I’m guessing home of the PHD (Pentecostal HairDo). **Mack Inc. Hair Salon** - Here’s the slogan, I swear I’m not making it up: **Is you hair under attack…? Come See Mack!** **Upward Motion Beauty Salon** - Looks like The Hair Sanctuary’s got some PHD competition! This is fun! ---

There was once a hair salon whose name escapes me, but on its sign was its slogan: “The best little hairhouse in Boise” ---

My last two cuts have come at Bouffant Daddy. Which is just a block or two from “Jon Tomas For Hair”, which makes me giggle when I think of Monty Python’s “The Penis Song” (“Three cheers for your Willie or John Thomas”). Inevitably, Something About Mary then comes to mind (no pun intended). ---

The one my mom always took me to as a kid was (and still is, as far as I know) named **Head Hunters**. Never thought anything strange about it, but look back, it now seems a bit weird. Of course, looking back, a lot of things seem weird about that place (the original owner was the stereotypical '70s swinger, and the decor reflected that). Now that I’m living in the Holy Land of Fractured English, there’s no shortage of odd names for hairdressers. One eye-catcher that I came across in Sendai was proudly named **Paris Monkeys**. The winner for most baffling, however, was a place in Mito that had a huge sign by the main street advertising **HAIR IN DRAWERS** I’ve thought about it longer than I probably should, and have yet to come up with any idea what on earth they were trying to say. ---
