Bad news about pot from USA Weekend

Once again, not a question mark to be seen. Is this meant to be a question, a debate, or a lecture?

Bullshit. I do plenty of things I am convinced are not healthy. Overeating, working too much, not sleeping enough. I accept that all these are bad for me because reputable studies have been done which show health hazards from them.

No one’s shown a reputable study here.

Whether or not something is bad for me is a completely separate issue from whether or not I like it and choose to continue doing it.

I’ve skimmed through the paper in question and here are some key observations:

So there is no issue with using weaker federal weed in this study.

The percentage African American in the chart was:

89%(control) 82%(light) 78(medium) 100(heavy)

This has to be some kind of mistake. Unless they recruited all black people for their study.

The days of marajuana use per 30 days is absurdly high. It’s 15.9(light) 24.5(medium) 29.2(heavy). This means that “light” users are getting stoned every second day and heavy users are literally perpetually stoned out of their fucking mind. Such categorisations have little relationship with common usages of the term, a “light” user in this study would be considered someone who is non-functional due to drug use in normal society. As a result, this study can’t be extrapolated down to the effects of the majority of marajuana users.

It certainly serves it’s purpose of providing quick media soundbites but even the most casual skim of the source material reveals a serious misinterpreation of the data.
