Species or genus, by correct English nomenclature, of actual wild birds that are not native to USA 1. Hoopoe 2. Emu 3. Dodo 4. House sparrow 5. Monk parakeet There are several small breeding flocks established in the Galveston-Houston area. I became aware of them one day when I was enjoying a quiet lunch and a raucous group descended into a tree next to where I was sitting. ---

Cattle egret Until a few years ago I thought they were native - they’re everywhere! - but they arrived in South America from Africa in the 1870s, gradually moved north, and got to Texas and Florida by the 1950s. I guess the cows had to use DEET until then 🙂 ---
