Call to Judges! Martin van Buren was the first President born in the thing which is the USA. Reason I know this fun fact: my father, when he was being sworn in, told the judge he was a grad student in political science. The judge busted his balls by asking him who the first president, etc. Can you imagine that? Dad was off by one. ---

So if Washington was born in Virginia Colony, then I suppose technically he did grow up to govern another (in fact, a new) country. ---
