Film remakes which were as good as, if not better than, the original. (No reboots, please) 1. Let Me In (Let The Right One In) 2. Clash of the Titans 3. The Wizard of Oz (There was a silent version before the classic 1939 musical.) 4. King Kong - 1976 re-make (my personal favorite) had mixed reviews and the 2005 version (which was critically and commercially massively successful) were at least as good as the original 1933 version. 5. Frankenstein–The 1931 film is a classic, and obviously better than the original 1910 film. 6. Dracula (1931). Nosferatu (1922) is a classic in its own right, but the Lugosi version is completely iconic. 7. Pocket Full of Miracles (1961); Lady for a Day (1933) 8. Little Shop Of Horrors (1986), wonderful musical adaptation of the 1960 dreck. 9. John Carpenter’s The Thing was much better than Howard Hawks’ (and much closer to the original story by John W. Campbell). 10. Warren Beatty’s Heaven Can Wait is much better than the original, Here Comes Mr. Jordan. 11. Lord of the Rings (2001-2003) is far superior to Bakshi’s 1978 cartoon. 12. John Wayne was better than Jeff Bridges (though Jeff gave a very game effort), but on the whole, the Coen brothers \*\*\*True Grit \*\*\*was better than the original. ---
