That article tells an amazing story about another Oscar theft: Alice Brady’s best supporting actress award in 1938. Brady had a broken leg and did not attend the ceremony. When her name was announced as the winner an unidentified man went up on stage and accepted the ward on her behalf. He then walked off stage and disappeared with the award, which was never recovered. Brady said she had no idea who the man had been and she was issued a replacement.
