Total trivia, but something I find ironic is that the hotel where Oscar lived his final days and died is usually described as run-down or third rate. It [still exists](http://www.l-hotel.com/), now known simply as L’Hotel, and due to renovations and location is now one of the most expensive hotels in Paris with an average room rate of €340-€800 depending on season and room size. Among their prized possessions are some framed “pay your rent or get out” letters written by the 1900 management to Wilde.

5. [Sir Henry Pellatt](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Pellatt)

At one time, he was one of the richest men in Canada. But he lost all his money and would have been homeless if his former chauffeur hadn’t taken him in.

A nitpick but his middle name was Allan. This was a point that Poe was quite insistent on. He adopted the middle name Allan when his mother died and John and Frances Allan took him in.

British actor, best known for Merlin in _Excalibur_. The odd thing being he died in poverty by choice: in his final years he lived on a pension and turned down lucrative roles.

Well, to be nitpicky, Quincy was neither a cop nor a detective. 😃
