Names of cherished pets you’ve had, breed/species, age (or birth/death years) & a brief summary of their personality quirks
1. Dickens, Black Lab, 1985-1996, trained him to dive to the bottom of a pool, very mischievous and clever
2. Sal, black cat, c. 1994-2012; very friendly, loved to have the inside of his ears scratched.
3. Meep, Russian Blue cat, 2000-2005; adorable, manipulative, jumped into my arms.
4. Luc, cockatiel, 1996-now, loves chili and ramen, whistles the Andy Griffith Show theme
5. Anthony, cat, 2002-, regularly demands his humans to watch him poop.
6. Smokey, cat, 1999-now, comes when I whistle, but not when I call by voice.
7. Fletch, the lop-eared rabbit. Recognized the sound of refrigerator door opening, and hopped over in hopes of getting a carrot stick. (died around 1987)
8. Ponch, Standard Poodle, c. 1980-1987. Once rang our front doorbell and patiently waited for us to let her inside after she got out of the backyard.

True story… the night before a university final, I got served a subpoena as a witness in court the next morning. I called the prof at home and he said no problem, just bring the paperwork when you come in for the make-up exam.
At some point, I left the subpoena beside Ernie’s cage and he dragged it into his nest. When I found it later, he had chewed on it a bit. It was folded in 3, so when you opened it there were circles chewed out of it.
I’ll never forget the look on the prof’s face when he opened it, looked at me through the holes and I had to explain that my hamster ate it!

She was a Daddies girl through and through, but no other dog in the household or neighborhood ever challenged her for alpha dog. Our 70 pound black lab would tuck tail and pad away quietly with one look from Mattie. God I loved that dog. Still carry her collar wrapped around the handle of my briefcase.

3. Stretch, black and tan mini-dachshund, 1971-1981. Loved having his picture taken - when the flash went off, he would run to the person with the camera and jump up, trying to lick the camera person’s face.
