1. This year: driving rainstorm, I see the cars ahead of me all suddenly stopped, managed to avoid hitting the car in front of me, then the guy behind me plows in and pushes me into the girl in front. She lies and says I hit her first…
2. Several years ago: going out of a gas station, I turn left to get back on the road, and this clown sails through a red light, smashing into the back of the van. There was no question of his guilt, lots of witnesses, but it totalled the van.
3. ABout 14 years ago, at about 11 PM, a drunk driver slammed into the front passenger side of my car at an intersection. The traffic lights were blinking red, which means you’re supposed to treat it as a 4-way stop. I stopped completely, then proceeded through the intersection The drunk never stopped at all.

4. About 20 years ago in a small Ohio town, broad daylight. My wife and I were stopped in the turn lane at a very busy intersection, about to turn left, turn signal on. An elderly driver coming from the other direction lost control, veered across the line and sideswiped us, rocking our car violently and scraping up the entire left side of our car. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and insurance paid for all repairs without too much hassle.

I made a left turn, thinking I could beat the car coming up the road - I turned too hard, skidded, and T-boned her back seat. It looked worse than it was, even though it was bad, neither engine was damaged, neither driver was badly hurt. But oh!, the glass flying everywhere in slow motion stays with me to this day.

1. 101 freeway, heading toward Palo Alto. Traffic slowed down, I didn’t (not in time, anyway). Hit the truck in front of me. Truck went on without stopping. After trying to figure out whether I should, so did I. Minimal damage to my bumper. Never heard any more about it.
