Oh, sure, I’m not saying that the bug is game free or there’s never any quest scripting weirdness. Just that I’d expect anyone in that specific area to assume you’re aware of the key NPCs in that area.
Complaint about the bad Bhaal ending.
So I got the hammer form Raphael promising him the crown of Karsus. I never went to Avernus to renege on the deal cause the Guardian kept telling me not to, and the game was even saying “Dude. You sure???”
So I confronted the Netherbrain with my deal with Raphael intact. We won, and I took over the brain with the game ending when I said, “For Bhaal.”…i thought for sure I’d have to give the crown to Raphael, the game said if i renege without finding the contract, he’d rip my soul away. But he never shows up. …unless he’s in a post-credit scene. I wasn’t going to sit through 20 minutes of credits again.
Use the down-arrow key to fast scroll through the credits.
As for the broken deal, I think in that universe you’d be too powerful for Raphael to enforce the terms. For comparison, in my playthrough, unascended me killed Raphael in his own House.
Most modern games send a constant stream of game data to the devs, including stuff like when someone starts a new play through, which quests they complete, how many people actually finish the game, etc. I understand that Larian had a particularly robust telemetry system as part of their extended playtest cycle, so they could track stuff like which dialogue options get picked the most, or what branching content people see the most, etc. Normally, a voice actor wouldn’t have access to this data, but presumably he heard from someone at Larian who does have access to the data, that no flags for this particular content have come through their telemetry system.
Man, I’ve been in Act 3 for about a month now, and I’m just spinning my wheels. Playing for about half an hour a day, and hardly making any progress. There are about twenty quests open. Moving through any individual quest feels like a coincidence: I happen to wander to a part of the map that deals with the quest, I happen to fight someone or open a chest, I happen to finish the quest or move it forward.
I really want to finish the game, but it’s feeling like a slog.
Yeah, I’ve said before that the last thing Act III needed was more Act III. I had fun but I also nope’d out of several quest lines ( clown murder, the whole artist/ghosts/necromancer thing ) that didn’t directly forward the main story or a companion story. Even then, it was a lot of content.
Act II Question (many Act II spoilers):
So I have done the trials of Shar, met Balthazar and pretended to work for him, Freed the Tieflings and Gnomes (but not Zevlor), did all I can to cure the curse (Thorn has to die for the final cure), beat Raphael’s rival, and met Thorn and his Orc Lieutenant but haven’t fought them yet (they also think I am working for them). At the end of the Gauntlet of Shar is an entrance that gives me a warning that sounds like the Act is about to end. Is there anything else I should do before proceeding? Thanks.
I think you’re good. The main place where people trip up is completing the Trials (Past the Point of No Return) without freeing the Moonrise Prisoners and/or the prep work to lift the Curse.
One minor consideration is that the three merchants in Moonrise will be gone/dead after you proceed so if you want anything off of them (the Bugbear quartermaster, the potions Drow and the Zenth halfling) then go buy it now.
Thank you! I will check out those shops.
Those vendors had some sick stuff that I’ll probably use on my MC until the end.
I’m close to the end of Act 2. I did reach a “point of no return” where once I went past it, I couldn’t go back. I am still torn on this. It would be nice to know which quests I can’t finish, without a save, check them, and reload if I don’t like it. In my case, I couldn’t go to the creche anymore but as I don’t use Lae’zel, I didn’t care about that. I also couldn’t do the underdark mushroom man attempt at a cure. As I know that curing isn’t an option, this also didn’t bother me. I did want to rescue Mol and others so am glad those are still options.
It could be that I’m old now and my eyes aren’t as good, which they aren’t. It could be my DMing style. I get that this game is visually beautiful, including with things you can interact with. However, what annoys me is that if ALT is pressed, it is supposed to show everything you can interact with and it doesn’t. Yes, some of that is not to give things away but more often than not, it’s annoying. I don’t prefer moving the mouse pointer all over the screen to see what I can or cannot interact with. That’s why I like the ALT option but knowing it doesn’t show me everything, it’s almost worse. I press ALT, don’t see anything to interact with, and move on not realizing it’s lying to me.
Where they really comes into play is when my current party actually makes a check and reveals something about the terrain or something hidden. Most of the time, I don’t see the new thing illuminated right away and by the time I look around, it’s not obvious to me what my character saw. If ALT, or something, could show me what I missed, it would help my experience with the game.
The other thing where this got me was in the Gauntlet of Shar. Turns out that in the fighting self test, I don’t remember the actual name of it, you can drop an Umbral Gem or it gets stolen and dropped. Since I didn’t see that I had dropped one, it took me hours of wandering around, checking inventories, and backtracking a lot until I found it again. That’s not fun. It’s also challenging me, instead of the characters. Of course, with how many survival and perception rolls my characters fail, it’s close.
These are my nitpicks on one of the best computer RPG games I have played.
I strongly dislike this also. Specially since in the very first big “dungeon” you run into, the goblin camp, there are several good items on skeletons that don’t show up on ALT.
Sigh.
These are not nit picks, I think, so much as FOMOs.
“What if I had done this?”
“Should I go back and choose this?”
It’s tough, though, because I don’t want one run to have ten branches that I have going with the same character.
In my second run, I finished Act 2. Back in camp and I’m talking with everyone, including the one I’m trying to be in a relationship with. I’m trying to be in just the one and see where it goes. This time, in the camp, I’m told that “I wasn’t interested in them as much as they were in me and I guess it’s over between us.” WTF? Darn it! I tried all of the combinations but it’s not letting me get the relationship back.
The only thing I can think is that I did a small cut scene with another NPC and even though I thought I shot them down, apparently it wasn’t enough. Annoying but I’m going forward. It’s actually really annoying the more I think of it. I wanted to see where that went and now I can’t.
I did pick a brand new group, though, for the city. I respecced one NPC completely. I thought about redoing my main but she’s a paladin and I finished with the other members and don’t have a healer except for the paladin. I also had her use the magic mirror to completely change her look after this happened.
My problem, when I play computer RPGs, is that I tell the story of that character, or group, in my head. I get to know them as best as I can. When I finally accept the story points that happen, I move forward as best as I can. I have been known to stop playing a game in the middle if I think their story is done, even if the game’s story isn’t. (I got to a point in WoW with my first character that their story felt done and over so I never played them again.) I’m not sure where I’m at with this one and will have to think about it. It’s not helping that Act 3, while still fantabulous, is weaker. However, I have so many more NPCs and allies than I did in my first play through, so I’m wondering how that will go.
Act II Shadowheart spoilers:
We were dealing with the Night Song and I gently tried to prod Shadowheart into doing the right thing and with out even a persuasion option, she flipped out and attacked us and was dispatched by Leazel and Ash. I felt terrible but figured, well, I can resurrect her and maybe talk some sense into her. Nope, she wasn’t mostly dead. She was dead dead.
Decided I just couldn’t live with that so I saved and restored to replay the scene and this time l let her make her own choice and ironically, this time I got a persuasion check. The dice roll and boom, a natural 20! That was definitely fate telling made the right choice to reload. ![]()
That’s where I’m at. I’ve shifted gears slightly and am not focused on the main quest – just treating the city as a big, open world. I originally misread the pacing and thought the coronation would be a big showdown. From this thread I realize how big Act 3 is and I can take my time.
This is my biggest frustration too. It happened again last night and I had to rotate the camera behind the wall to see the marker. I wish the log would have message “Gale saw a button” or “Lae’zel noticed a hole”. It would narrow down where to look.
I don’t mind the ALT behavior, but I can see why it would be frustrating. I don’t mind putting in some work to find the quest items and see the ALT key of at least sparing the work for the regular junk.
I pissed off the Steel Watchers so now everywhere I walk sets off a battle. I guess I need to finish the quest to shut them down.
Also since the latest hotfix #7, my game crashes frequently. It’s a good reminder to go to bed.
Potions Drow can return in Act 3 depending on things.
I think the Zenth halfling as well but, since it’s both path dependent (assuming you find them at all) and not until later, it’s still a good idea to get your shopping done first.
This is better than the first one!
Has anyone noticed issues since Hotfix 8 (the one released this week)? I had a lot of issues with flickering and at least one dialogue sequence where people’s faces were twisted and today my not quite year old PC had its first blue screen error ever while I was playing. I’ve had crashes here and there from the beginning (although the game has been relatively stable considering its scale) but it seems much worse since that hot fix.
My game has been fine since the hotfix.
Usual trouble shooting tips:
- Update your video driver
- Next time you start the game, check your graphics settings in the game. Make sure all is right there
That may not help, but it’s a start.
