Baldur's Gate 3! {finally Released August 3rd, 2023}

Thanks. I saw that other site and quickly concluded it was worthless. I’ll give this one a try.

The most glaring absence among races I saw was Aasimar. I was surprised that it wasn’t an option.

I saw that, in the EA version at least, there was a mod to add in either Green Flame Blade or Booming Blade cantrip. I didn’t really dive into it, just noticed that the “SCAGtrips” (as they’re collectively called) were missing from the spell lists, did a search and saw articles about mods to add at least one of them in. I think the other one was mechanically too difficult with the game’s framework.

Thanks, bookmarked. And, yes, I did always see Fextra on top.

Purple Dragon Knight isn’t in game so 0/10 – pre-emptively uninstalled and kicked my PC tower.

I also bookmarked the wiki.

Will mods be on the Steam workshop, or is there another good site(s) for them?

Nexus Mods most likely

(I wouldn’t bother with any of these until launch and they get tested with the release version – also, browsing the mods may reveal spoilers)

Anyone know what the day one “patch” will be like? Will I save any time by downloading the early access version or will the game essentially be reinstalled from scratch?

Word is you’ll need to redownload the entire thing.

Good to know, thanks.

I came here to ask this. I just downloaded the game. Ah, well. As long as I don’t have to pay for it twice.

I seriously thought this was coming out at the end of August, but nope, August 3. I’m getting pumped. Between this and Diablo 4 I will have all free time accounted for.

From what I read, they’re adding another 33% worth of content to Act One (which makes up the Early Access content) tied into the rest of it. So there really isn’t anything to be “saved” when the actual live release happens.

Sitting here itching to make my character already!

I think there is a 3-day early access for people who pre-ordered the game.

It is Act-1 only but saves from those three days will work once it officially goes live (anything before that will not work).

EDIT to add: I am wrong. @Jophiel clarified it in post 135 below.

I think that was the original plan but it got scrapped when they moved up the release date. Even journalist/review keys are just going out now.

On the plus side, you’ll get to play it a month earlier than the PS5 people.

I’ve tried to find an official word on this but my Google is failing me.

So, grain-of-salt. I might well be wrong (not unusual for me).

And yay PC Master Race! (I own a PS4 and Switch but still team PC Master Race at heart).

Here you go. PS5 players will get a three day head start… on other PS5 players. And a month after PC players.

It’s advised that you uninstall the early access game, since the release version will be a new installation, and you’ll just be wasting hard drive space. You can also delete your current saved game files, since they won’t work at release.

C:\Users\ [username] \AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3\PlayerProfiles

You can delete any folders in there.

That’s just a way to clear space for the real thing in a week.

It annoys me to no end when games store their save game files in LocalAppData. It’s like, guys, there’s a whole “My Games” folder in documents just for this kind of thing. Friggin’ use it!

I scheduled August 4th off work. What the hell, I’ve got a ton of vacation time. Might as well use it.

I have a ton of vacation too that I really don’t use most of so, on occasion, I too have scheduled time off for a big game release to just play with no worries.

When you posted this I checked and realized I forgot that I had scheduled the first week in September off for Starfield and BG3. But now they are split.

Not sure what to do now.

First world problems.

There are abundant videos hitting YouTube in anticipation of the BG3 release but think this one (below) has some really good tips. Not just tips, those tips show how the game has so many options for being clever/inventive.
