God dammit - I just finished another playthrough last week (human monk redemption Durge).
Oh well. Back to the Nautiloid.

If they change the epilogue and you have a save right at the start of the epilogue would you see the changes or do you have to redo the final battle?
I said I was done with the game after getting all the achievements, but I do have a fairly early save in act 1 if I really wanted to get the most out of the classes. Way down the line I also never saved all the gondians so I guess there’s two reasons. Through 4 runs I have over 300 hours in the game though so no rush to get back in.
This is just from Google (I have not tried it myself so, grain of salt). It seems you have to at least re-do the final battle to get the new (or more complete?) epilogue. Again, I have not done it yet since the new patch so I dunno.
No, you don’t need to start a new game to see the new Baldur’s Gate 3 epilogue. You can access it by loading a save file from before the final battle against the Elder Brain and completing the ending. The epilogue will trigger after the dock scenes.
That’s how I got the achievement. I wasn’t even going for it and was surprised when it happened.
I am super late to this party, but I got a new laptop for Xmas that can handle BG3 and I just started playing. Hot diggity, it’s pretty freaking great. Really loving it so far, and I’m only about 90 minutes in. I remember playing the original BG oh so many years ago, so it holds some nostalgia as well.
It’ll go down in history as one of the all-time greats.
My only real advice is to try and decide relatively early whether you think you’ll do multiple playthroughs. If the answer is yes, then free yourself from the need to do everything and save some side quests (especially in Act III) for future runs.
The game is phenomenal but it’s a teensy bit bloated towards the end. Hard to believe Act III is what we got after they cut content.
It already feels complex enough to me that if I did every side quest I would never finish, so this seems like sterling advice.
I will also say that combat can be very frustrating in the early game. It gets easier when you get to level 5 and some abilities kick in.
Yeah, I already got my party killed twice. But that’s fine - I’m stick kicking off the rust about how it all works. I expect to play poorly at this stage ![]()
My single bit of advice is to respec Shadowheart once you have a spare hundred gold. Even if you keep her in Trickery (though I wouldn’t), at least fix her starting stats so she looks like she was rolled by someone who knows how 5e works.
All this talk about BG3 since the final big update has been itching at my brain. I think it’s finally time for my second playthrough.
Has anybody played with any mods? Any recommendations if so?
I haven’t used any mods, but I think some quality of life mods like inventory management mods would be nice. I wouldn’t do anything that affects gameplay.
I use many mods and switch them up between playthroughs. I use the BG3 Mod Manager from Nexus Mods and get all my mods from there. I’ve heard that the new built-in mod manager works well, but haven’t used it.
Looking at my current list, I’m using
And one that I’m not using, but have to mention for the humor
How does this affect the game’s difficulty scaling? I played on normal difficulty and was absolutely steamrolling everything after hitting the level cap.
I find that extra levels don’t break the game as much as magic items. That is, being level 20 with poor items is harder to play than level 12 with great items. But yeah you can make the game very easy. I like to not worry about getting the best items.
Welcome to BG3! In addition to the listed mods, I’m using the Increase Party Size mod. The baseline 4 party restriction feels constrained and not D&D-like. Getting a 5th or 6th party member feels more like BG1 & 2 and raises the general fun factor significantly when you are able synergise more skills, split the party, play with more odd-ball class experiments, etc.
Welp, at long last I finished my first playthrough and all I can say is: FUCK YEAH, SOLDIER! What an amazing game. I loved, loved, loved it. I’m going to let it sit for a little while, but I am definitely planning on a second run. I played as a Swarmkeeper Ranger, which was a lot of fun pushing enemies around - over edges, into webs and thorns, etc. I’ll probably aim for some kind of melee character for my second run.
And I’ll definitely try to find Asterion for the next run. I never met him and have no inkling of his story line, so reading this thread it was funny to see his actor win all the awards when the game came out. Should be some great undiscovered content waiting for me ![]()
Did you meet the BG1/2 cameo characters too?
If I did, it was so long ago that I don’t remember them!
