One thing that it kind of glosses over is that it’s helpful (in 5e at least) for casters to have a cantrip that targets AC (attack roll to hit) and one that targets saves (enemy makes a saving throw to avoid). That way you have options against enemies with high armor class or high saving throws.
I haven’t played the BG3 EA though so maybe +to hit buffs are so common that this isn’t an issue in game.
I’ve gotten through three years of early access with very little information penetrating my bubble, I’ve got no plans to get careless at the end!
Those “ten things I wish I’d known” videos rarely have anything I’ve personally found useful. Really important stuff will get reported on individually.
I, too, have avoided most spoilers through early access.
I think this one is just some tips on game mechanics to help. In the past I have played through whole games not realizing there was a game mechanic I would have loved to have had that was there the whole time. This video is that.
Mostly QoL tips in a one-stop shop, easily digestible format. If you’d rather wade through a Wiki that’s fine too.
I’m so excited for this. I’ve played just enough of early access to get a feel for how the game works and figure out what class I what to play (as well as figure out character creation options ahead of time), but not enough to get deep into the story or anything. I was barely out of the tutorial.
I have a work event Thursday night which, frankly, feels like a direct personal attack. I think I’ll have enough time to at least sneak home beforehand and get the download started…
If it helps here is when you can start your download with the new game (obviously if you are not in those places you’ll have to do some time math). I have heard it is a big download (I’ve seen 65GB to 80GB to 150GB…I think 150GB is free space on your hard drive and not download size) so will take a long time.
I’m sure they will. This is a major release for a CRPG, and like you guys I am super excited for it. But it’s also a very niche genre; even if it does as well as it sounds like it will, and reaches mainstream levels of success, it will still be dwarfed by something like Cyberpunk or Hogwarts Legacy or Starfield. Steam can handle the downloads.
I was debating whether to buy this on GOG or Steam. I have a huge library on both platforms. It was the same price. What decided it for me was remote play, which Steam offers and GOG does not. (That wasn’t extremely important, but it was enough for a tiebreaker.)
I think you have given another point in Steam’s favor, and I’m glad I made the decision I made.
I also figured Steam had the potential for Steam Workshop mods and, as a minor consideration, friends might actually see any screenshots, etc I post since they’re all on Steam and no one uses any of GOG’s nascent social features.
I’m sure a solid 70% of you will say “What’s a Twitch?” but, if you DO know what Twitch is and, for… reasons?.. want your characters to look like… this… than you can earn these drops between the 3rd and the 17th by “watching” a BG3 stream while you do other things. Heck, let the stream run while your download chugs along Thursday morning.
Blech, will every game have this crap now? Hogwarts: Legacy did. I didn’t play that game (yet?), but I remember it making the news that it crushed all Twitch records because oof how successful this promotion was.
I guess once that’s a metric of success every game has to do something like this to drive twitch views to avoid the perception of failure.
I did this for Diablo 4. I found someone doing Twitch drops and used a script that keeps my PC from going idle (so that it thinks I’m paying attention). I was earning them overnight.
I absolutely must have periwinkle undergarments. They’ll bring out the infernal fire in my tiefling’s eyes.
Not a fan of Twitch, though I do know what it is for (watching other people game and whatnot has never really interested me). But for those, I will…absolutely make sure I don’t go anywhere near it. Because gah - puffy shirt! A half-orc barbarian in periwinkle undergarments only works for a parody account .
