Hey, this is the BBQ Pit, here, not GD. You can be a condescending asshole here. But not in GD.

Irrelevant. Protesters gave moral encouragement to this (and possibly other) terrorist.

You are against terrorism _and_ war, but how many were protesting against terrorism? None that I, or apparently, Sawad, saw. I’m sure that the attacks would have gone through, protests or no. But the fact is that these animals got some sort of moral boost from your protests.

Iraq is being called a ‘breeding ground for terrorists’ by certain elements in the media. That doesn’t make it so. Iraq certainly seems to be _attracting_ lots of the little buggers, but ‘breeding’ them (figuratively), I doubt it. Regardless, better there than here.

And like I have said umpteen times, I give a shit about Iraqi WMD. It would probably be easier for a clever terrorist to just make one over here (or take out a nuke plant, along those line), than it would be to smuggle whatever refrigerator mold Saddam had simmering away in his little labs.

Were I an Australian who opposed the invasion of Iraq, I would be deeply ashamed and I would mend my ways forthwith and start flying the biggest US flag I could find in my front yard as a token of remorse for giving this guy in Bali the idea of setting off a bomb.

As an American who thinks the justification for the invasion was a crock, that the occupation is likely to be as an extended ordeal resulting in an anti-Western Islamic state, will fly a US flag in my front yard as as an assertion of my right and duty to tell my government what I think. Neither our friend **December** , nor his apologist named for the last Roman republican (note the small R), nor some Malaysian nut job will intimidate me into either not exercising that right or performing that duty.

Thank you for your support.

Spend a fraction of their to make clear there whole message. Don’t forget, there were protests before America went into both Afghanistan and Iraq. To the unsophisticated Islamist, that looks a heckuva lot like support for them.

When’s the last time you protested against cancer? Never, right? Fucking cancer-lover.

Why do you like seeing people die long, lingering deaths? Are you some kind of sick freak, or is there something in it for you?

When cancer thanks me for what it percieves as my pro-cancer stance, I’ll worry. Until then, I’ll worry about who else is being inspired by the anti-war crowd.

No real disagreement here. I was simply pointing out that saying **december** isn’t being a condescending asshole (as **World Eater** asserted) isn’t being fully accurate. **december** has been and will continue to be a condescending asshole, he just chooses his battles and his language more carefully than **Coll** did.

Let me get this straight.

Americans excercise their constitutional rights by protesting their government’s actions.

Terrorists pull off some shit in an attempt to destroy America and its government, the result of which would be an inability to excercise any constitutional rights.

This is the American’s fault.

Do you blame women in mini-skirts for getting raped too?

Well, as to “a”, you have the words of the terrorist himself, from the article linked in the OP.

As to “b”, it’s a complete strawman. One of the consiquences of the war in Iraq is undoubtedly that some people may decide to become terrorists because of it. What that has to do with the fact that mass demonstrations against the war on terrorism are an encouraging sign to terrorists is beyond me. Try again and leave Ray Bolger behind.

Brutus ( of all people ) actually hit the nail on the head about this one.

And please note, nowhere have I said or even implied ( and I don’t believe december has either, in this thread or any others ) that the freedom to voice your opinions and First Ammendment rights of every American should be limited, curtailed or infringed upon in any way. What I am saying is that **you should be aware of how these demonstrations can be perceived in other parts of the world**. One of the core concepts vital to a Republic is the concept of a loyal opposition. It’s so ingrained in us that we don’t even think about it. In many parts of the world, mass demonstrations against the policies of the local government are one of the sure signs of an impending revolution. Terrorists who come from areas where this is the case usually don’t grasp the fact that masses of Americans demonstrating is NOT a prelude to a violent overthrow of the government or a radical change in policy, it’s simply us exercizing one of our cherished rights. To them, it can be seen as “hey, look, they’re starting to crack, we better step up our efforts”.

Well, while we’re discussing cause and effect, I might suggest that, if you’re the President of the United States, before you **start a fucking war** you have a think about what the likely outcomes are:

Possibility #1: The Iraqis will welcome us with cheers and adulation and democracy will bloom throughout the land.

Possibility #2: After 12 years of sanctions and getting ass-fucked by us in the first Gulf War, the Iraqis will not exactly be excited to see us when we invade their country over trumped-up evidence. Without any rational plan for setting up a stable government in the region, the chaos will allow the known anti-U.S. extremists in the region opportunities for training, recruitment, and guerilla warfare against their avowed enemy.

Obvious solution: start a war, but make sure you do it in such a way as to allienate all your allies, so you have to pay for the entire thing yourself and your image in the region is much worse from the outset.
