I loved the show so much I went back and read the books a few years ago and I highly recommend them (lengthy, but so worth it):
Considering what he did for a living, you may be right. Same tune, however.
Best Omar Little scene: The Wire - Omar testifies against Bird - YouTube
I got the shotgun, you got the briefcase, it’s all in the game.
Yea, you’re right. They all had it coming except the first
guy. Made me sick. More and more movies are getting the
hero killed.
SPOILERS???
Well, excuse me. These are my first posts here and the
show has been over for years and I thought everyone
saw them, at least the first season?
Geesh!
It’s nothing personal. I’m sure everybody in this thread has seen most of the show but a lot of other people on this site haven’t and if they’re thinking about getting into it, they would rather not have it spoiled. I think I watched the entire series last year.
It does seem strange probably, but the fact is, The Wire is one of those shows that people are discovering for themselves all the time and they mightn’t appreciate spoilers, especially when the thread title doesn’t include a spoiler warning.
Stinger definitely had it coming!! He got it easy, IMO!
My wife nearly cried when Omar died. It shook me down to the core as well. He was probably my fav character, maybe after Wallace. Good guys at heart.
There was a scene in season 5 if I remember correctly where o-dog and Snoop were in a car, Snoop asks ‘how does my hair look?’ O-Dog replies, ‘you look good..’. That scene was acted out verbatim on an iCarly episode with Sam and the chubby kid. I couldn’t believe it!
Psst! Stringer
HBO GO has been promoting that you could watch pretty much anything they’ve ever produced, but The Corner is not available. I’d never heard of it, and I’m kinda pissed at HBO.
Well, so much for the notion of spoilers.
Typo..
There is an interview made by the directors or the film crew with the real Avon Barksdale in jail..he complimented Simon on capturing the life he knew as a ‘hood’. Though many of what happens in the series is probably fictional, I’m guessing there are parts that are ‘ripped from the headlines’ so to speak.
First time I watched I had to pause the DVD I was laughing so hard when he “tied” his tie.
“Yo, what up BIRD?” ![]()
No kidding.
I will add one that I think someone beat me to, but should be repeated…
The man’s name was STRINGER, not STINGER, Bell. He was not a bumble bee.
A great way to get an idea of the quality of the writing of The Wire is to see the opening scene of the first episode (I think. it’s been a while). But when McNolty talks to a kid on the street and discovers how another kid gets the street name “Snot Boogie”. That is simply classic writing.
I’ve reported the thread and asked the mods to put a SPOILER warning in the thread title.
I too assumed this would interest people who watched the entire series already…wrongfully I guess.
side note, my sister in manhattan who is a crazy big fan of the Wire has her daughter attending the same school and year as Seth Gilliam’s kid(he played Carver)…I’d love to bump into him sometime.
I see “Mayor Carcetti” all the time. He seems to frequent the same bars I do.
Thanks, I understand now but it takes a real whimp to file
a complaint. I can see a MOD whacking it on his own but it was only one little scene, not the entire
damn show.
The same whimp who said he lived in a white middle class neighborhood near HOpkins.
Hell, that’s one of the worse neighborhoods to get robbed. I grew up near there and
went to high school near there during the 60s.
We moved out because that neighborhood was so bad. Plenty of fights down there when we were kidss In fact,
I still have a switch blade I took off a guy from down there who tried to use it on me.
The same whimp who said DC and Bmore are similar.
They’re completely different. People from Bmore hate DCers. That’s the nation’s capital and they always looked down on blue collar Bmore. Both cities have the plights and crime probs even their gay districts but the cities are as different as night and day.
Don’t call other posters wimps. The spoiler thing was no big deal (and I put a spoiler warning in the thread title), but you’re not allowed to insult other posters on this site unless you’re in The BBQ Pit forum.
Look man, all he had to do is say SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERS,
and I would have gotten the hint. Like I said, I didn’t spoil much.
It doesn’t matter if you get the hint - if no one had reported the post I wouldn’t have known there were spoilers in it. You don’t get in trouble for accidentally posting some spoilers; I just fixed it so no one will read them without wanting to. Now let’s get back to the real thread topic, please.
