**Monty** , I think you’re being a little harsh here. Have you ever seen **Christina** drive? If not, how do you know she is truly a danger to others?

Let’s see, she said that she didn’t stop at a red light before making a right turn. She said she was wrong. Have you never made a mistake before? And she parked the wrong way. Can I see statistics about how many people were killed because of parking violations?

And though she may have been wrong in breaking the law, I think that the general point of there being more important things for the police to worry about is valid.

And one last thing, **Monty** , you say that the police have no right to pick and choose what laws they enforce. Totally true. But do you seriously think that there are no police officers who do it anyway?

That would be an opinion. I obviously don’t share that opinion.

As far as I know, no. However, I did grow up in Arlington County, Virginia; so, perhaps I have seen her driving.

> [@](#):

By her own statements in this thread. You might want to revisit the bit about the parking (which necessitated driving on the wrong side of the road) and the bit about blowing through a red light. Both of those actions (driving on the wrong side of the road (afer all, someone may pull out of their driveway not expecting some fool to come barrelling down the wrong side of the road), and blowing through a traffic light (after all, someone might proceed on the green light not expecting some fool to come barrelling into the intersection) are dangerous.

> [@](#):

OMG! You did read it and you apparently understood what you read. Yet you make the posting you made. Truly amazing.

> [@](#):
>
> She said she was wrong.

That would be fine if that’s all she did. What she did in addition was to bitch about getting caught and having to pay the penalty.

> [@](#):
>
> Have you never made a mistake before?

Yes, but irrelevant in this case becuase I don’t whine to the world when I get caught. I suck it up like an adult.

> [@](#):
>

I’ll be happy to do a websearch for reputable sources with both that info and also for those who got hurt. You do realize that I’m not addressing the bit about the car after it’s parked but during the actual motion of the vehicle–on the wrong side of the road–to get it into that position, I trust.

> [@](#):

See above from another poster about why the cops enforce both the misdemeanor laws and felonies.

Irrelevant. The posting to which I responded implied (and one poster, Christina, even stated) that all cops are like that. The way it works in the World of the Real and Mature is that if someone asserts someting, like “Cops get to enforce only the laws they want to,” then that individual has to provide the evidence.

One final thing: you would do a lot better if you knew what you were talking about. Evidently, from your posting above, you neither know what you have read nor what you have posted.

\> That would be an opinion. I obviously don’t share that
opinion.

Use of first person in argument shows self-indulgence. Desist.

See above.

You have used the letter e 55 times in the above paragraph. It results in boredom to the reader. Desist.

\> OMG! You did read it and you apparently understood what you read. Yet you make the posting you made. Truly amazing.

Usage of acronyms indicates lethargy.

\> That would be fine if that’s all she did. What she did in addition was to bitch about getting caught and having to pay the penalty.

You dont pay a penalty. You pay a fine.
\> Yes, but irrelevant in this case becuase I don’t whine to the world when I get caught. I suck it up like an adult.

Trying to enforce your ideas on others is not nice. Desist.
\> I’ll be happy to do a websearch for reputable sources with both that info and also for those who got hurt. You do realize that I’m not addressing the bit about the car after it’s parked but during the actual motion of the vehicle–on the wrong side of the road–to get it into that position, I trust.

The second sentence is too long. The first sentence is plain wrong. And never try to rhyme; it decreases the arguments credibility.

\> See above from another poster about why the cops enforce both the misdemeanor laws and felonies.

See above for explanation of whats wrong with this.

Too much of convoluted logic. Use simple short pithy non-repititous lines and legitimate wrods for getting your point across to the other person, namely the arguee with rary discord which ctherwise result in nonsensical rules to apply for machine translation.

\> One final thing: you would do a lot better if you knew what you were talking about. Evidently, from your posting above, you neither know what you have read nor what you have posted.

As mentioned before, too often use of the letter e.

Have fun!

You think cops dont keep the drugs and fireworks and whatever else they confiscate from people. They are inherently hypocritical so I suppose I’m not surprised when I hear stories like this.

That is bull-fucking-shit and you know it. “You think cops don’t keep the drugs and fireworks and whatever else they confiscate from people”. Just because you’ve seen it on a movie, doesn’t mean it happens in real life ALL THAT OFTEN.

They don’t let off pretty girls as a general rule, so get your head out of your ass. A friend of a friend stories do not happen to everyone.

Yes, there are some bad cops out there. Just like there are some teachers who molest children, some incompetant construction workers, drunk school bus drivers, but that isn’t any sort of fucking reason to generalize EVERYONE in that profession, you fuckwad.

As the relative of 5 cops, 2 of which are my parents, I am very deeply offended at the generalized hate that I encounter every day towards police officers. Listen buddy, these people have FAMILIES who would appreciate it if you don’t decide, “This cop was a dick for giving me a ticket, I’m going to find out where he lives and shoot him” because several very similar situations have happened to me. It amazes me how people can consider themselves open minded and understanding and then say things like what you just did, and think that all cops are donut-eating, coffee-drinking, overweight imbeciles with a gun.

So to all you who have this opinion, I give a hearty FUCK YOU. You don’t know everything, or anything, that you think you do.

FTR the OP was made with the most glaring commonly held misconceptions about cops that I could psossibly think of, I do know they don’t all eat donuts I was just being a bitch becasue I was angry. Also in my OP I said I was gonna hunt him down but nowhere did I state I would shoot the officer, that would just be a completely asinine thing to do. I basically just wanted to give him/her my opnion on it in a very heated manner.

As for Monty staing I blew through the light, that is not he case. I was driving when it had just begun to rain and the pavement was slick with oil near a highway overpass. I chose to slow down instead of hitting my brakes to a complete stop and turn while looking to see the oncoming traffic. Thus I was trying to avoid a situation where I would slide on the pavement. The officer confirmed my explanation in court and the fine was lessened as a result of that explanation. As far as parking is concerned, it truly is not a danger to park on that side of the street in that manner. It is done throught the neighborhood and is quite commonplace. While driving home this evening I counted 14 cars violating the same parking law, as well as a double parked vehicle double parked on the wrong side. There is a nickname for some Baltimoreans with which I am certain you are all familiar. Baltimoron. In my case somedays it applies and somedays it doesn’t. And no, Monty could not have ever seen my driving as I decided to wait to get myself on the road unitl I was 27 to avoid all the headaches of car repairs etc. Gosh knows I should have still waited, my car is a pice of crap. 🙂 I must say Monty you do a wonderful job of debating and I have thoroughly enjoyed our debate here together, we must do it again sometime. 🙂

**ladyfoxfyre** - I made some generalizations which **Monty** has already taken to me task on. I do however, stand by my generalizations _speaking from experience_. I have had to pay a substantial fine because a Police Officer lied. He thought he saw something that he in fact _did not see_. I have had many female friends tell me about getting out of a ticket. I have been in a car with a female who got out of a ticket. In High School a Police Officer admitted that he generally keeps or throws away confiscated materials.

I have seen Police brutality first-hand. I have seen people kicked, punched, get their hair pulled and legs and arms stomped on. Police make their generalizations, I’ll make mine. Every day I see Police take advantage of their position to break traffic laws in their favor and selectively enforce other laws.

I forgot to mention the time the Police came to break up a party we had only to return a half hour later to give me his name so I could pass it on to one of my female guests. Class act I tell you…

I’m not going to argue with you, I don’t have any idea what it is like to have a family member risk their life for low wages and even less respect from the community. I do know that I don’t _trust_ the Police and I think their leash should be kept very, very short.

I apologize for offending you and all of the good Police out there, whether I see them or not.

**ramesh** - 😃

No problem. Heck, we very well might even be debating the same side in future debates, what with me growing up in the so-called tri-states area.

p.s. Sorry about the overuse of the letter e; couldn’t be helped.

Thanks for the admission.

Then please limit those description to the inviduals actually doing the wrongdoing.

Actually, that’s not a lie, to wit: an intentional falsehood. It’s a mistake, to wit: an error in observation or recollection. Now if you could’ve proved to the judge (magistrate, commissioner, etc., as the case may be) that it was not in fact what he saw, you’d’ve presumably not had to pay any fine. Of course, you very well might have made a mistake, to wit: an error in observation or recollection.

FOAF, basically.

Maybe the female’s looks didn’t have anything to do with receiving a warning instead of a ticket?

Did he admit this in your presence? If so, did you not contact the local office responsible for ensuring the police aren’t breaking laws? If not, why not?

Or, was this another FOAF story?

> [@](#):

This happened in your presence? If so, did you not contact the local office responsible for ensuring the police aren’t breaking laws? If not, why not?

One person’s misdeeds is not an excuse for another’s.

I think this paragraph has already been refuted earlier in this thread.

Then, pray tell, have you bothered speaking to the local office responsible for ensuring the police aren’t breaking laws? If not, why not?

Actually, I agree that the “leash” for the police should be kept short. After all, I’d rather not live in a police state. I have visited a few and am quite thankful that the United States doesn’t even approach that.

This is rather odd juxtaposed with your comment above about not trusting them.

Hunt

1. To chase or search for the purpose of catching or killing.
2. To pursue with force, hostility, etc. (often followed by from or down).

You do undrestand the impression one gets when you say you are going to hunt someone down, don’t you?

it is perfectly legal to park on either side of a 2-way road in the UK.

Don’t ask me for a cite…that is so petty…it just is ok.
😉

I personally do not see why some people think this is such a dangerous operation. Why? Are you unable to look in both directions?

So you’re back to the “everybody else broke the law” defence, eh? Did it ever occur to you that there’s a reason for the law? Like the fact that to park that way, you _must_ have been driving opposite traffic for some period of time? You can claim that it’s perfectly safe in your neighborhood, but:
[li]That doesn’t change the law[/li][li]It’s probably not as safe as you seem to think it is[/li][li]It would sure suck to hit a pedestrian or something. One who walked out in the street looking the other way (you know, the way that traffic was supposed to be coming from). Or an oncoming car that you didn’t see.[/li]

Actually, I prefer Baltimoron, and use it with respect to all my fellow inhabitants of Bmore. It gets the joke out of the way, and it honestly sounds better. But maybe that’s just me.

As for your little red light adventures, might I suggest driving at a speed that corrects for wet roads, and allows you to comfortably come to a stop at red lights? There’s even this handy little thing called a “yellow light” to warn you that you will need to stop soon.

And FWIW, I know plenty of guys who get out of tickets all the time. You see, cops are people too. Like most people, if you’re not a jerk, they might give you the benefit of the doubt…
