I donā€™t know anything about Catonsville, except that Dimitriā€™s has the _best crab dip on the planet_. Nope, beer is not sold in the supermarket; however, I am from Pennsylvania, where not only is beer not sold in the supermarket, it must be segregated completely from liquor and wine. So being able to buy both Kahlua and a six-pack _under the same roof_ makes Baltimore seem like some sort of bohemian paradise to me. You can find your Newcastles at Welles in Towson (Towson is a really nice college town north of the city; worth checking out) or at The Wine Source in Hampden. Iā€™ve also found them in a convenience store called Supermart that is right around the corner from Palomaā€™s. Actually, you can find just about anything you want within walking distance of Palomaā€™s- transvestite hookers, Unitarian services, art collections going back thousands of years at the Walters Gallery, cheap produce and deli products at Lexington Market. Palomaā€™s is in the fine Mt. Vernon neighborhood mentioned above. Maxā€™s in Fells Point would have Newcastle on tap. For Godā€™s sake, Maxā€™s has lambic on tap. ---

Thank goodness. I was starting to get worried! I know this is going to make me sound like all I do is drink, but do liquor stores have regular hours there? Iā€™ll be coming from the land of blue laws, where all liquor stores have to close when the sun goes down. (Really. In the summer, they close around 7, and in the winter they close at 6.) My biggest concern is trying to find a job there. I mean, Iā€™m sure I can _find_ a job, but I donā€™t know if the pharmacy laws there are much different from here. Iā€™m sure I can get a job waiting tables if I had to. ---

There are plenty of live bands- the big place around my parts for live bands is the Recher Theatre. Itā€™s in Towson- Iā€™d check it out sometime. They also have some very big (well known) bands play there- Iā€™m actually seeing the band Galactic there in two weeks. Towsonā€™s really nice, as someone else said. There are also plenty of great gigs in the city. I donā€™t know what your musical tastes are, but one of my favorite local bands is The Bridge. They play Bluegrass-jazz. ---

For all your booze needs, you can cruise around the Beltway to the Loch Raven exit and visit the Liquor Superstore at Loch Raven & Joppa. Itā€™s under the Ethan Allen store. It has everything. You should try McHenry Beer. Itā€™s quite tasty. You need to go to Looneyā€™s in Canton, on Oā€™Donnell Street. Get a bowl of steamed mussels. Itā€™s only $5, and then you can go play pool upstairs. Yes, itā€™s a divey-looking place, but itā€™s fun. Nacho Mammaā€™s is right across the street. Welcome to Maryland, the Land of Pleasant Living! Please drive gently. ---

For the record, Iā€™m 28, 29 in March. Iā€™m a fogey compared to my boyfriend. šŸ˜ƒ Iā€™m a pharmacy technician, but right now I work in research. I make all the medications we use for drug studies. Iā€™m pretty well versed in compounding, but I worked in retail pharmacy for 9 years before this. **Boyfriend** got me listening to **Mary Prankster** when he came down here. Heā€™s trying to convert me, folks, I promise. šŸ˜‰ ---
