Ban on combat lifted = women registering for Selective Service?

Yes. “Basic in our society” isn’t exactly an explanation. And what difference does it make if the “man” lives with a woman or not?

Your silly attempt at evasion does not change the fact that your assertion needed a closed-casket funeral after its ugly collision with reality.

If I am a **soldier **who fights alongside another soldier, and someone’s life is on the line, as a **soldier **I put mine up first (though only if we’re unable to take the enemy’s life before it comes down to that).

There is nothing holy or sacred about a female when it comes to killing and dying, and as the female Dopers in the thread have pointed out “bringing forth the next generation” (a) requires someone *begetting *the next generation (unless you want the next generation to be all children of 4F’s raised by single moms) and (b) is not their destined or annointed obligation, duty or purpose: This. Is. NOT. Sparta.

Sure, I dispute that as well. It’s something a lot of people believe, but it’s not universal nor should it be.

Slacker!

This just goes to show that you’re too busy painting your nails to do what needs doing.

Incidentally, you know who does conscript young women right along with young men? Israel. Because, well, there’s a war on.

The Senate just passed a $602 billion defense spending bill. Among other things, it requires women to register for Selective Service. And since it passed 85-13, it’ll probably be able to override an Obama veto, too.

Tankers are in combat positions and I understand that the smaller average size of women would be considered advantageous; those tin cans aren’t exactly spacious.

what does that have to do with being forced to go out and die for some old man’s political dispute with another old man in a different country?
You can be sure I’m not volunteering to fight for these old men’s ideologies nor am I volunteering to produce the next generation, and I’m willing to fight for my right to not be forced to do either thing. They should get rid of the draft. For everyone.
If an actual threat to the country occurred, most people men and women will step up and help, which has occurred repeatedly throughout history. And the women didn’t do so by sitting around on their butts “producing the next generation.”
Men should be quite outraged that they are considered cannon fodder for silly political disputes. Why aren’t they? I’ll stand up with you and protest being forced to register for the draft.

Which brings up a related and quite on topic concept: We have feminism to describe women who demand to be treated like people instead of walking wombs. Why isn’t there any related movement to describe men who demand to be treated like people instead of like testosterone-poisoned knuckle-draggers? I know a lot of men who object to the standard “male” stereotype but they don’t try to do anything about it.

There are the men’s rights’ activists (MRAs.)

Feminism as a movement (at least reputable feminism, anyway, and not the outright misandry which is often misnomered as feminism) very much deals with the discriminatory effects of traditional gender roles and societal structure on men - a concept usually referred to as “toxic masculinity”. An unfortunate amount of MRAs, albeit not all, fall into the category of reactionary anti-feminist movements as opposed to organizations genuinely concerned with gender equality.

The House bill doesn’t include it, so they’ll have to hash it out before it goes to the president.
