Bands with the word band in their names

The New Vaudeville Band (“Winchester Cathedral”)

I’m sooooo going to kill you! Here I was, thinking “aha, I bet nobody’s heard of the Riverbottom Nightmare Band” from Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, and you…just…stole my thunder.

Well, just in case you really don’t know…

There were two singles and one LP credited solely to the Plastic Ono Band.

The first single was “Give Peace a Chance”. Admittedly, this is pretty minimalistic musically, but the chorus did become an anthem of the peace movement, and the single reached #14 in the US and #2 in the UK.

By contrast, the second single,“Cold Turkey”, was kickass hard rock. It featured Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr, and reached #30 in the US and #14 in the UK.

The LP, “Live Peace in Toronto 1969”, featured Lennon and Clapton (among others) running through a rough set of oldies, plus versions of “Cold Turkey” and the Beatles’ “Yer Blues”. (Plus a side of Yoko.) It made #10 in the US and went gold.

A number of other singles and LPs were credited to John Lennon and/or Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band. These include “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band”, which many regard as the best album by an ex-Beatle.

Wow, I only have eight band bands in my mp3 collection, and four (Beta, Spinto, Matthew Good, DMB --> there are a handful of songs I don’t hate) were already mentioned.

Jim Carroll Band
Jesse Damon Band
Mark Lanegan Band
The Shawn Fussell Band

Then there’s The Abandoned Pools and Los Abandoned, if we’re taking those type of band names too.

I can’t believe 45 responses and no one got Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. I thought for sure it would be gone by now.
