I liked Bush as a teenager. I’m really not sure why. And I can still stand a few of Stone Temple Pilot’s songs, but in general they haven’t aged well.
I’d been waiting for just the right opportunity to throw in a mention of “Love Beach”, ELP’s last and (by acclaim) worst album, particularly the song “Taste Of My Love”:
Get on my stallion and we’ll ride.
I want to hold you and enfold you beyond reason
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
Go down gently with your face to the east
The sun may be rising but we haven’t finished the beast.
Not even Golden Earring ever came up with lyrics that awful.
I had the opposite response to the Ramones. At the time they were semi-big (the '70s) I was into “deeper” stuff and thought the Ramones were loud, crude and one-dimensional. When I started listening to them again recently things had completely changed and I realized that they were terrific.
I guess I’ve come to terms with being loud, crude and one-dimensional myself.
One group I once liked (at least, the album “Magician’s Birthday”) was Uriah Heep. Now - ecch.
Queen. I used to love their music, but now I find myself switching to something else when I hear them. (Except for Nevermore, I still love that one)
Led Zep…<shudder>
Completely burned myself out on them when I was 15. Two notes is all it takes for me to stab at the “change station” button now.
I fuckin’ hate the…Eeeeeeeeeeaaaaagles, maaaaaan!
