I stepped into a bank to talk to a teller for the first time in about 2 years today. I needed to order Euros and Pounds for a trip. The teller seemed very young and had a slightly startled look on his face in response to my request - I guess it was unusual for him to deal with (which is odd, as this was downtown Montreal)? - but was very polite about taking the order and letting me know that it will take a couple of business days to get (as I expected).
I’ll see if everything went well when I swing by to pick up the money next week!
I use ATMs and online banking for pretty much anything else. My husband manages the big stuff; I think he sees tellers more often than I do!
Not only did I kill the thread, I jinxed myself. I went back to get the Euros and Pounds today, as the guy said I could, and, naturally, they didn’t have it. They could give me the Euros, but only in large bills (which I didn’t want), but they might be able to get the Pounds for Friday, Monday at the latest. I leave on Sunday. No go.
So, frustrated, I walk out and walk into the bank across the street, where I don’t even have an account. Not only were they surprised that I had to order such a small amount (only a couple hundred…this is cab/subway fare mostly!) but they didn’t understand why such a major branch of a major bank didn’t even keep that much on hand. They gave me what I wanted, in the denominations I asked for, and gave me the customer rate on top of it.
We will be changing banks after this trip, and I know who has now jumped to the top of the list for us to consider! :smack:
Suntrust bank thinks my company’s fax number is some other company’s fax number, and has had it on file for about 5 years now. We’ve had this fax number about 10 years. The first 3 or 4 times they sent us one of their customer’s sensitive information, we called the sender and told them the mix up and were treated as if their gaffe was our fault. Every time it happened, we called and got treated like we were the jerks.
Now, we just keep their stupid faxes and never bother to tell them that whatever they are faxing is not getting to where they meant it to go. But any time anyone ever mentions Suntrust I try to tell them about how they send out their customers’ info willy-nilly, and are assholes.
I get great service at Chase né BankOne né NBD (my checks still say National Bank of Detroit). In fact I walked in today, requested some documents to be notarized, reviewed my accounts, and left without paying a dime. On the other hand, wiring money to China cost $40! ::eek::
