I know you hated him, **Esprix** , and with cause, but I’m sure I’m not alone in missing his wacky presence on these Boards. However, the best part about **Wildest Bill** was the making fun of him, and you have to admit he took most of it like a true gentleman. I think he would actually appreciate jocular references to him after his demise, and I for one love the legacy of yuk-material which frequently gets referenced around here, from **WB** and other banned posters. To the newbies, c’mon, the Archives hold most of the best material the SDMB has ever seen! Check 'em out.

Tut tut - I didn’t _hate_ the lad, he just irritated me to no end (as he did a good portion of this board). (Trust me, there are others on this board who are _far_ more worthy [and deserving] of my ire.) For Pit and flame material, even I miss him for that.

In-jokes are part of our shared history. So are references to banned posters. There is no reason we shouldn’t talk about them.
And if some people don’t get the references, so what? That’s part of being a newer member. Newer members are free to ask questions. I remember asking about a certain “Heatherlee” when I was a newbie, and someone kindly posted a link for me. And even old-timers like me don’t get half the references. I didn’t pay much attention to Wildest Bill, and had no idea until this thread what “gotcha ya” meant.
Maybe some people just need the Tug-Ahoy[sup]TM[/sup] Humor Restoration Device.

Just so we’re clear here, since this is getting way beyond what I was initially complaining about- I’m not advocating not talking about banned posters _out right_, ever again, like their some sort of pariah’s.
Not at all (And in my case, quite the opposite, actually).
I misinterpreted **Esprix’s** comments as being mean spirited and cruel, especially since the poster couldn’t respond to what I _thought_ were digs.
Apparently they’re not.
My mistake, and my apologies.
My opinion on ripping on banned poster hasn’t changed, and I doubt it ever will, but this wasn’t an example that fit what I was arguing for.
Hope that clears up things on my end.

It may just be early, but I found this delightfully funny.
(for the uninformed, “Hi Opal” is a quick tribute to our member OpalCat’s dislike of two item lists. She insists that we have lists with at least three items even if the third item is totally unrelated or just “Hi, Opal”. So now, item number three on any list is traditionally reserved for her.)

The escapees from Hee-Haw in **aenea’s** post were a family of hillbillies who’s names I can’t remember. Um one of 'em called her develomentally disabled child “L’il Potato” or something. Rosiewolf?
I remember the “my perfect penis” guy, but can’t think of his name.
And the waaaaaa that’s been mentioned a couple of times comes from Johnsbury, who thught it the height of rational discourse to respond to one’s post with “waaaaaaa”
As for the “Love me for a long time” thing, 'preciate the thought, **Lucki** , but let’s just be friends, 'k? 😉

Let’s get this straight first up. Most of the banned posters mentioned here were complete fuckwits. **JDT** in particular. He was a racist, sexist, homophobic, deranged boil on the festering ass of humanity. I sometimes feel ashamed that I’ve moved to the same state he (presumably) lives in.
However.
Wasn’t the SDMB, well…exciting, in a bizarre sense, when he was trolling? Remember when everyone was lining up to take punches at him? And how we all just shook our heads at someone who just _did not get it_ in multiplicity? I remember firing up the Board every day in late 2000 just waiting to see what insanity he came up with this time. I also remember rolling on the floor with the tenor of the attack and counter-attack. Who knew that foreskins could be so damn funny? Well, OK, but who knew there could be such mileage in the joke?
Look, I know **JDT** offended other people. But he was so obviously a dumbass that all you could do was laugh in his face. And the dumb fuck just kept coming back for more! Because of him, the Board was united for a while–everybody against him.
This is probably going to be the least popular sentiment I’ve ever expressed on the Board, but sometimes I think we **need** trolls and socks. Because, without Evil Dopers, how can we readily identify and truly appreciate the Good Dopers?
