They announced switching to paid accounts and adding Google ads up front, I don’t see why they would try to start sneaking stuff in now.
And yea, it takes 30 seconds to block them on FF.

Firefox with AdBlock, so I don’t see them (or any other ads). Thank God.

ETA: I just looked at the screen shot- man, I couldn’t put up with that, that’s terrible!
Firefox Adblock…click the adblock link on the bottom right of the browser to bring up the blockable links window. Go down to the one that starts “http://media.chicagoreader.com/phpAdsNewer/…” Left-click on this. Go down to the filter box at the bottom of that window. Highlight and delete everything after the “phpAdsNewer/”, add a “*” to the end of that, then click “OK”.
Voila! No banner ads.
I don’t have banners, because clearly the admins like me better than you.

My banner ads are all for Taos Ski resort. They’re still annoying and flashy, but at least they are a calming blue and white. Oh, and they’re on the preview page too. Lovely.
Now I’m off to block the fucking things. Chalk me up as another user who generally doesn’t complain about the boards, but thinks this (if it’s permanent) is bullshit.
Alright, now I’m getting irritated. I just opened this thread again to find another banner ad (that’s irony, Alanis). Apparently they’re coming from different sources, because when I clicked it to block it, its source was not the one I blocked an hour ago.
Are we going to have to block new sources every day, or every hour?
In fairness WhyNot if i was setting this shite up that’s the way I’d do it. Not much point in having them if everyone can block them easily.
