What context? Do you mean intentionally to suggest some bizarre stereotype that equates conservatism and bigotry? And then call that “context”? I think the fact that you read the whole thing as bashing liberals betrays your prejudice in this instance. I’m not bashing a liberal; I’m bashing a racist slur. And I call upon liberals to do it, too. ---

Lib, the more I read here, the more it sounds like you’ve been personally wounded; like until she went on that show, you were so desperately in love with Babs that you held her to higher standard than the rest of humanity; that such a minor malapropism should so shatter your world and leave you so impotently spluttering. Maybe this is why she doesn’t do more interviews - her publicist doesn’t let her. (On a side note, it amazes me how you 'Murkins know everyone’s politics and religion. I couldn’t tell you the religion or political leaning of any Canadian celebrity.) ---

I am still convinced Lib is putting us all on, that this was a paradoy, or a satire, or sumthin. But I still don’t “get” it. Maybe some play of words on 'ass" ?? 😕 How does some silly off hand comment make someone a racist? 😕 Naw, that couldn’t be what Lib meant- not the Lib I know & respect- but often disagree with. […sigh…] I have been more than conciliatory to the liberals lately. In fact, I have already sworn that I will vote for the most flaming liberal on the ballot because I am sick of Bush’s emerging Gestapo State. I do not for the life of me understand why this incident is so trivial to people who champion the rights and dignity of individuals. Streisand herself, during the part of the show when she talked to the students, stressed that people in a position like hers have special responsibilities because, she said, they have a pulpit, a stage from which to be recognized and heard. And here she goes and squanders it all with a cheap joke about a racial stereotype. How can this not be unacceptable? ---

Really? Do you advocate any of the following? 1. Free and open borders 2. The elimination of all laws of prohibition 3. The immediate release of all federal prisoners convicted of nonviolent crime 4. An end to oppressive ballot laws 5. Withdrawal of all military troops from foreign soil and the dismantling of all foreign bases 6. The immediate rescinsoin of all executive orders that discriminate on the basis of race 7. Federal guarantees of individual freedom and restriction of government intrusion into privacy ---
