I just want to make sure you’re not putting astringent all over your face. Never use a product with alcohol in it all over your face. Never ever. If you have a blemish you can put it directly on the blemish. I know you have oily skin, but the alcohol will eventually give you lines.
Physoderm or Cetaphil are great cleansers that don’t strip the skin…and they can be found in any drug store. I’m sure Wall Mart has it.
Neutrogena has a great moisturizer…“Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Cream” I believe it’s called? It has a sunscreen and retinol in it…Retinol will not only make you look younger, but it will help you with breakouts. It exfoliates and refines the skin - and basically your pores don’t have time to get clogged and form a pimple. Yay! It’s good stuff! It’s also lightweight and non-greasy. I have really noticed a difference in my skin’s texture since I started using it.
Well, I did my shopping today and loaded up on plenty of Neutrogena without bankrupting us. And I’m happy to say, that I’m pleased with all of everyone’s suggestions and I’ll start trying things out tomorrow (too tired tonight, or just too lazy, I’m not sure which – I’d rather play on here! :D) to see how I do.
Also, although I rather appreciate all the birthday wishes, I gotta admit, my writing skills need brushing up and improving. I must suck at telling a story. For I won’t have another one until March, when I turn 36. However, I think I’ll save all of these now in case I don’t have many then. If I’m about to soon be going “over the hill,” I’ll need a nice comfy cushion of self-esteem doses for when I get there.
So in conclusion, you guys rock with your advice. Here’s to a happier, healthier face (sans alcohol – thanks Shana) without shine or too many blemishes. One can always hope.
I think as I get older (i’m 37) exfoliation is more important for my skin than anything else. I have oily/combination skin. Alpha Hydrox make a couple of different exfoliators in lotion and gel formula. I have found them in the Dollar store for about $4 each!
St Ives also has a great Apricot Scrub made for sensitive skin thats really inexpensive!
I also think it’s important to moisturize regardless of skin type. It’s mad a big difference im my skin texture and frequencies of breakouts. I don’t think all lotions are alike, but there are great ones to be found at the drugstore you just have to experiment a little. Some of my favorite products were found in bargain bins!
In my experience it’s hard to find a good inexpensive under eye cream. I’ve currently been using Avon Retroactive undereye serum. I picked that up on Ebay for about $10. It’s okay…after it’ gone I think I’ll try something else.
I have always found Neutrogena to be way to harsh for my skin. I think some of that line is way overpriced!
