Is there any program, possibly freeware, that will batch covert a folder of bitmaps into jpegs?

Although there’s a lot of software to do this, most of it is demo or trail based. You can give [Image Converter EXE](http://www.softpile.com/Multimedia/Image_Editors/Review_13830_index.html) a try. If that doesn’t suit your needs, head on over to [Softfile.com](http://www.softpile.com/) and search for “convert bmp jpg” and then scan the results for License: Freeware.

If you want to go the shareware/evaluation route, you can’t beat [Paint Shop Pro](http://www.jasc.com/download_4.asp?) or [Thumbs Plus](http://www.cerious.com/download.shtml).

Irfanview is freeware, and is not crippled or limited in any way, and it does rule. Use it.

For Mac users who may open and read this thread, the tool you want is GraphicConverter.

Photoshop does this - it may be a bit pricey if this is all you’re looking to do though. It’s done via the “Actions” palette.
