I’m having a blast with the beta… well with the exception of the stupid web browser aspect of it. The current beta map (Metro) is not exactly what I most enjoy from a battlefield game, but the graphics, sound, and mechanics of the game are spot on. Hopefully I can get some time on the Caspian Border map later today to truly get a taste of the Battlefield gameplay. Anyone else playing the beta? Looking forward to the game? Or better yet, interested in an SDMB server? I’m thinking about renting one out! ---

I pretty well stink at BF2, BFBC2, and, well any FPS. But I’d be up for it. My reviving and health-pack tossing skills are second to none! I have a 10 slot Teamspeak server if that helps. A non-doper buddy of mine is a huge BF fan too, so I’m sure I could get him to join. Jeff ---

Sweet. I think they’re tossing in Teamspeak/Mumble servers for free for pre-orders. I’ll wait and see what the interest is like before settling on a number of slots for the server. ---

Got to play in Caspian Border a little tonight. The current password is: Appletini Though they’ll change it soon enough. Gotta say, this map is exactly what BF 1942 and BF 2 was to me back in the day. The scale, the weapons and vehicles, you really do feel like you’re in the most cinematic, over the top battle that was ever filmed. Didn’t get a chance to try a jet yet, but was able to pwn some dudes standing around waiting for one to spawn with a tank shell. Man, that felt good. Always hated the jet campers. ---

I’d be interested _if_ folks here were ok with me joining. I wouldn’t say that if there weren’t caveats which are: 1. I’ve never played Battlefield at all…ever…not once. 2. While I like the style of game I tend to _really_ dislike most of the people playing it (pub matches). Some are ok but there are waaay too many wankers. 3. I am not awful at such games and after a bit I can do my part but I am never, and never want to try to be, the uber dude who cares about headshot percentages or kill/death ratios. Bottom line I want to play for fun. Doesn’t mean I do not try or do not play as a team (I do). Just my goal in life is not to be the best BF3 twitch junkie on the planet. If Dopers here are cool with the above and dealing with my learning curve I am game and will give it a go. If you want an experienced team I am cool with that too (really) and will skip it. ---

**Whack-a-mole** , I’ve never played either (the last similar game I played was Counterstrike-source, some five years ago), but have been having a hankering to shoot people (online) lately, so I’ll probably try out an SDMB server if it materializes. So you won’t be the only extremely casual player there (perhaps if there are enough of us, we can organize newbie matches). ---

I’m pretty sure most SDMB gamers prefer to play for fun, and are not that competitive. I’d definitely like to have more players like you guys than like the “YOU’RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT YOU NOOB” Types. ---

Ok, I pre-ordered our server in order to lock down the price. For now it’ll be a 24 man server, hopefully we’ll get enough interest to fill that, and perhaps even upgrade to a 32… or dare I say a 64 man server? Maybe when it goes free to play 🙂 So peoples of SDMB: be so kind as to (not so gently) prod your gaming friends/family/fellow dopers into playing! Game goes live on the 25th of October, I believe. Beta will be available until the 10th. ---

The map still has some issues, anyone else float or sink below a hill? I’m a seasoned veteran of BF2 on PC but lately I’ve played the hell out of Black Ops on 360 so the controls are going to take some getting use to. For me the jury is still out on the console doing BF justice. ---

The “Ultra” settings are disabled in the PC beta currently, and still it looks WAY better than the consoles. And it’s not just looks.
