John Travolta? Why would he star in a movie made from a book by L. Ron Hubbard?
That would be because he is a bigtime scientologist.

Dear Lord,
Through your good graces I will one day forget the crap-fest Dune.
Stick to the rain forest, Sting.

Have you seen the “Director’s cut”, chief? It manages to be both longer and less complete, truly an accomplishment of excremental proportions.
The best lack all conviction
The worst are full of passionate intensity.

I saw a poster for B.E. this past weekend at Six Flags Magic Mountain. (It’s identical to the one featured on the IMDB page Atrael provided.) That makes sense since it’s being released by Warner Brothers; Looney Tunes and DC Comics characters are still featured at Six Flags parks even though Time/Warner sold the SF chain to Premier Parks last year.
I also notice that SFX were handled by Patrick Tatopolous, the designer of the new Godzilla. Does that mean the aliens will look like lizards?
There are two websites: www.battlefieldearth.net and www.battlefieldearth.com That second website features a biography of Hubbard. He’s described as “Writer, Artist, Explorer, Philosopher.” Guess they didn’t have enough room for “Messiah.” According to his bio, he was like a character in a Jack London story.
But what’s really interesting about the bio is that there is not one reference to Scientology. Smells like they’re trying to hide something doesn’t it…?
When all else fails, ask Cecil.
