Sloppy writing on my part. Tyrol blew up the dish. Apollo and Co. would then investigate, spot Tyrol’s gang, and fly in to rescue them.

That was of course stolen from _Saving Private Ryan_ where it was a German Panzer tank, a .45 and a P-51 Mustang. 🙂

I knew I’d seen that gag before, but it was well done, and not over-done. [broken record]I’m really impressed with Aaron Douglas’ acting.[/broken record]

They knew their rescue beacon was working and that Galactica would send help. Crash wanted to attack the Cylons to prevent their shooting down the would be rescuers. Chief kept pointing out that destroying the dish that guided the missiles would accomplish the same goal.
Crash was motivated to start the attack when they heard the sonic booms of the raptors.

I think I posted a link to this effect before (an interview with Douglas?), but the size of his role can be attributed to the producers’ being impressed with his work as well. He was hired for a smallish part, he tore it up on set and on screen, and the writers/producers responded by giving him more and more stuff to do. If I recall correctly, half the stuff he does in the miniseries is basically improvised off a rough outline, and most of it wound up in the final cut because he was so good.

And he definitely shows it here. The character’s dilemma — knowing the lieutenant is making a mistake, but sticking to discipline and the hierarchy anyway — is exquisite, and Douglas makes the most of it. This show may not be flawless from a military standpoint, but it’s head and shoulders above virtually everything else on television. (Although… anybody watching _Over There_ on F/X?)

> The only thing that really bother me about this episode was the sudden character changes. Tigh seemed to handling things just find publicly and pulled the Galactica through a very hairy situation in the first two episodes, now all of a sudden he’s back on the bottle and screwing up everything? And Callie has already been through a fire fight and had to “Smack” the chief back into duty mode, now she flips out? Seemed very forced, especially Tigh. They put him back into stereotypical drunk, screw up mode he was in the mini. I really hated to see that, they were adding some dimision to the guy.

Actually, It might not be such a shift. One could argue that Tigh is good when it comes to military matters but is not a people person at all. He knows how to defend the ship from attack, but has no clue how to deal with the press or the Qourum. And apparently he hits the bottle when the ship is not in danger, meaning he’s more likely to screw up at those times.

Actually, I think they blew the dish to get rid of the rader guiding the missles, or something like that. One of the Rator pilots mentioned the missles weren’t tracking(And I suspect they were supposed to).

BTW, did anyone else think that Tyrol firing at the cylons only to be saved by the aircraft was an homage to “Saving Private Ryan”?

RE: Water

When reviewing the plan to resupply from ice on a planet. he seemed to be grandstanding. Something like, “Well fiddlesticks Mr. Smith, how will we get six gazillion pounds of ice onto the ship?” etc.

I wonder now if he was trying to improve morale with humor or if he was in his cups.

Tigh is very much in character. He is “The Peter Principle” incarnate. The man has some definate skills, but they are all military. He can’t deal with people that aren’t in a clearly deliniated chain-of-command, and he can’t handle leadership. He is the perfect XO, and the worst commander possible. What makes him fascinating to watch is that _he knows all of this_. If Adama died I truly think that Tigh would be tempted to join him. It would only be his sense of duty that kept him from suiciding to avoid command.

However, I won’t mind at all finding other humans being manipulated like Balthar has been. Specifically, I’m thinking of the President’s visions.
>
> I think the new Cylon will be the “human” (and totally new character, right?) from last week who had been hiding in the weapons locker amongst a lot of dead bodies.

It’s not totally DEM though, because the writers have already established that “they look like us now” so anyone could be a Cylon. It would be kinda cheap if one of the big characters turned out to be Cylon though. Adama, Roslin, Tigh, Apollo, Starbuck - that would be a punch in the gut.

The “new” character you’re talking about, do you mean Dualla, the CIC comms type person? She’s been there since the beginning. I wouldn’t freak out too much if she were a Cylon. She more or less blacked out during the Cylon attack, and Cylon sleeper agents seem to have a way of doing that, when their Cylon programming conflicts with their human persona.

What would truly be hilarious is if both Billy **and** Dualla are Cylons. An updated _Gift of the Magi._

“I broke this thingy for you.” “I fixed this thingy for _you_.” ☹

The expressions on their faces when they realize that their attempts to breed a human-cylon hybrid aare for naught because they are both Cylon! Laff riot!

OK…I need to go lie down now.

No, not her. It was some guy I don’t recall seeing before (or since). He ended up being conscripted for the big “hold at all costs” barricade. I don’t recall any more than that, so I’ll have to re-watch that segment on tape …

Oh, I think I might know who you’re talking about. There were three deck-hands that always hung out together, kinda like the three musketeers (or stooges). One was Socinus, who I believe had previously been jailed for covering up for Tyrol, and who got killed on Kobol. The second is Cally - a fan favorite. The third is the guy you’re thinking of. I think. Don’t remember his name, but he could be a Cylon. He was acting a teensy bit suspiciously.

I just thought of something else. You don’t think… nah. They’d never do it. But… well Six keeps harping on Baltar about how he has to become a man and be a guardian to this kid she keeps talking about. I’ve always assumed there’s a Six model out there somewhere gestating Baltar’s kid. But what if… no. They just wouldn’t do it. But… Baltar had sex with Starbuck.

No. They just wouldn’t do that.

They certainly seem to be hinting at Dee. She would fit the profile of the female models. They all seem to be pleasure models. I’ve been thinking that since she planted one unexpectedly on billy boy in the pilot. Her brush with the centurion landing party looks bad too, although they could just be playing with us. I guess a basic question is can the sleeper models actually ever be aware of their origin or would that cause them to melt down ala g-boomer. I’d like to see what’s going on with g-boomer now. Is she fully aware of what she has done and has she come to terms with what she is?

You must have watched the unedited UK version. I haven’t seen Dee’s brush or Billy’s pilot. 😃

What’s so bad about Starbuck being a Cylon? I’ve kind of been watching for it and I know I’m not the only one.

Could explain her extreme hatred of Cylons, too…

It would change from a pretty decent science fiction program to _Survivor in Space_.

Besides, Ron Moore wouldn’t do that to us.
