BBC: "New Florida vote scandal feared"

What I can’t understand is why good, honest Republicans aren’t furious about these sleazy attempts to suppress the vote. If I were a Republican, I’d be even more angry about the things that Apos is describing than I am now. I wouldn’t want my party to sink to such despicable levels. Likewise, if I were a Democrat, I’d be enraged if I found out my party was knowingly registering illegal immigrants, etc.

Until the decent, upstanding people in each party demand an end to these slimy tactics and reform within their own party, I doubt things are going to change much at all.

The problem is that the 527s are doing some sleazy, or at least irresponsible, things as well. Paying per registration is just an invitation to disaster and fraud. I don’t quite see how that fraud really helps Democrats in the end the way voter suppression hurts Republicans, but it’s still wrong.

However, I can’t hide my amusement at the fact that the Republicans PROMOTED a bunch of guys who were indicted for fraud in South Dakota. Or that they apparently talked some of their local floozies to basically commit perjury just so they could set up their whiny “we have to be able to cause chaos at the polls” stunt.

Many of us are. And many of us see Bush and Rove as disasters for the party in the long term (not to mention disasters for the nation). But being a contrarian during an incumbent election is a hard row to hoe.

The problem there is that “They’re doing it too” is not much of a defense. Unethical behavior on the other side does not excuse unethical behavior on your side (whichever one that may be).
