> It’s really not even about gay rights. You don’t see any of these people threatening to boycott businesses run by devout Muslims who believe that Islam is correct about homosexuality.
> This is despite the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and will almost certainly overtake Christianity as the #1 religion in the world within our lifetime. Demographic projections indicate that atheists will remain a very tiny minority for the foreseeable future, despite how many atheists love to fantasize that the world is “Waking up” and becoming less religious. Nope. The world isn’t getting less religious -just less Christian.
> Yes, western liberal atheists/homosexuals, the Christian chicken restaurant people are by far your most terrifying nemesis. In the future when the Muslims are the majority religious demographic, I am **totally sure** that they will have nothing but love and respect for your homosexuality and atheism.

So we should patronize and give money to openly anti-LBGT Christian bigots because The Scary Moosselmen are coming for atheists next ?
Yeah, that makes total sense now that you mention it.

> No. Refusing **people** is not the same as refusing a **message**. Refusing people for how they were born (how God made them) is a hateful action. Refusing a message that promotes hate for people is an anti-hate action. It is an act of LOVE.
>
> I will remind you that **the Bible is silent about gay marriage**. I will also remind you that, even if it were sinful, **the Bible never says to not do business with sinners.** Jesus was a carpenter. Paul was a tentmaker. Do you really think that they never did business with anyone but Christians? Jesus literally ate with sinners. And Paul earned his own money so he wouldn’t be a financial burden on those he preached to. They didn’t argue that they were "participating in sin’ to get out of it.
>
> I also remind you that homosexuality is not a choice or a lifestyle, any more than being straight. It has been proven that people are homosexual or heterosexual from a young age, and that there is no ability to change. It is only called a “lifestyle” so that people feel safe hating it. They know that the Bible preaches against bigotry. It calms the cognitive dissonance by allowing the fiction that actions against homosexuality are hating the sin, not the sinner.
>
> Oh, and Miller is right. It is insulting to us Christians who do not buy into this nonsense for you to use our God as an excuse. The hatred against gay marriage is because it is different, not because the Bible forbids it.

“It’s different when we do it.”

The Bible is silent on drunk driving, hate speech, and fossil fuels. It is far from silent on marriage; it _defines_ it. Anything outside that definition is therefore not Biblical marriage, and that is the issue.

Two major problems with this: One is that no Western country has Biblical marriage, as Biblical marriage is polygamous marriage and is generally frowned upon, especially by people calling themselves Christian. Two is that ‘the issue’ is that you’re trying to force OTHER people’s marriages to conform to your definition of Biblical marriage (which likely isn’t actually biblical), and that’s what people have a problem with. “Traditional marriage” that you opt into isn’t under attack, what’s under attack is trying to prevent people from getting married when you don’t like it (and also when their marriages are more biblical than yours).

You avoided the main point of that post rather clumsily. Allow me to restate. Opposition to homophobia isn’t opposition to Christianity. Most Christians are not bigots. The anti-marriage position is the minority position among American Christians.

I suspect we do not mean the same thing when using the word Christian. I mean evangelicals who believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, not people who sometimes sit in a “Christian” church.

( **Rick Kitchen,** **Pantastic** ) Genesis 2:24 is the definition of marriage for Christians and we do not take that position out of hatred for homosexuals. But the world seems to believe that if I refuse to accept group X’s definition of marriage and group X refuses to accept my definition of marriage, I am the hateful one.

Labeling Bible-believing Evangelical Christians bigots and “homophobic” seems to be a method for shutting down discussion, and it comes from a breathtaking ignorance of the worldview of Christians.

Shopping around for Christian businesses to challenge and then sue because the owners stand by their faith seems like opposition to Christianity to many because our faith is our whole life, not just something we do for a couple of hours on the weekend. Most Christians who support Biblical marriage are not trying to prevent people from getting married. We simply refuse to participate because we believe it is wrong to celebrate people defying the Word of God. Find another baker, videographer, musician, florist, venue.

Your taking ‘that position’ is a clear attack on the human rights of homosexuals. As I’ve said before and you’ve attempted to dodge, the problem is not how you define marriage for yourself, it’s the fact that you attempt to legislate the destruction of marriages that don’t fit the arbitrary bits of the Bible that you want to follow. That’s the hateful behavior.

Why arbitrary? Because you pick one passage, and ignore others to support your prejudices and hatred. If you were actually following the Bible, and especially the teaching of Jesus Christ, you’d have to follow the whole thing - notably Galations 3:28 which states clearly that “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” If you’re actually Christian, you kind of have to accept the words of Christ, even if they tell you not to be mean to minorities you’d like to hurt.

Actually, it comes from knowledge of the actual practices and claims of Christians, including current political activities. One of the good things to come out of the Trump presidency is that people are way less inclined to let conservatives (including conservative ‘Christians’) keep up their fictions of not being bigoted.

If your faith prevents you from operating a business that doesn’t discriminate against people, then you should follow the law and your faith and find a business you can legally operate, or get a job where you’re not in charge of the business not engage in criminal enterprise. Don’t conservatives usually object to ‘Illegals’ taking jobs from law-abiding Americans?

Look, the Bible clearly states that marriage is between one man and one woman, possibly involving one woman and her rapist or one man and his brother’s widow, or sometimes one man and several wives and a whole lot of concubines. But the Bible is very clear on this.

Frankly I’m struggling to remember which part of my wedding ceremony involved the person who made the cake. Did they take that part out after Vatican II or something?

Yeah, I’m using the standard definition of “Christian,” not the “Only people who share my exact, minority interpretation of the Bible is a Christian, and everyone else is lying about it,” definition that you use.

Rather, it comes from extensive, first-hand experience with so called “Bible-believing Christians,” and all the ways they overtly act to harm people who don’t conform to their ideas of sexual morality.

When I mentioned my sister and her wife to the rah-rah’s picketing our local women’s health clinic, I got the universal response: Your sister can’t have a wife. Now I say “My sister and her legally wedded wife.” One protester went so far as to tell me “The children your sister’s “lust partner” had and your sister adopted are NOT your nieces.” How loving Christian of you.

A friend of mine never patronized the store i work at because “It’s open on Sunday.” Now she’s a former friend.
So-called “Christians” spread their bigotry everywhere “in the name of Christ.”

And, BTW, in this country until very recently marriage was between a man and a woman of the same color. And I haven’t seen where same-sex marriage has hurt anything at all. A recent news cast I heard said Elton John cancelled some concerts due to the death of his mother-in-law. His husband David Furnish’s mother died.

Way to go, 1010 WINS news.
