I’m (obviously) a newbie.
I’m a lurker but not in the rubberneck sense. Although the FF thread had me feeling that way. More, I’ve seen that this is a forum for heated debates, for general pissed-offedness, for clarification, and, as it sometimes happens, for remorse. It’s clear to me that you gotta mean what you say and say what you mean and that you guys/gals take posters at their word and question when their word doesn’t quite gel.
So, for what it’s worth from a lurker/newbie who’s pretty bored at her job (please, no flames for reading on the job) and has read probably way too many threads, I don’t see an unhealthy dynamic; I see an outlet and an appropriate forum.
This is a great board (by that I mean the SDMB) – There are a lot of intelligent folks here contributing to issues and there’s some very worthwhile stuff to take away.
But to make it more specific to the Pit, there’s a lot to take away from those exchanges as well. At first, I just kept imagining a cocktail party where people spoke their mind and someone responded by saying, ‘Fuck you, you dipshit. You still don’t grasp what the fuck i’m talking about.’
But, someone pointed out in a thread and I can’t remember who and I can’t remember when, that a lot of stuff that goes on on this board is what people IRL may be thinking, but not saying.
And so, I think it’s very worthwhile to have a board such as this, to be able to express your view and take the ‘fuck yous’ or whatever, or to say ‘fuck you’ or whatever, and have intelligent people respond out of cocktail party context and in truth.
So, I say, flame away, the BBQ Pit is just fine, and thanks.
