Santa Rosa? Wasn’t that the town Hitchcock used in SHADOW OF A DOUBT?

Was Shadow of a Doubt filmed in Santa Rosa? They did a remake of it a couple years ago, and it was filmed in my town (very, very close to Santa Rosa).
Anyway, I’ll be there, but I’ll be late. I’m going to the Giants game that day (thanks for the tix, VV!), so I figure I’ll make it at about 6 or so. If anyone thinks that the party will be dead by that time, please inform. If there is to be a sleepover, also please inform. I have already promised Patrick that I will do his hair, so this better work! See y’all then!

Since it was filmed in 1943, I’d be willing to bet that it was filmed entirely on soundstages and back lots in Hollywood. However, the story was set in Santa Rosa. Hitchcock thought it symbolized small-town America.

Hitchcock always enjoyed Northen CA. He used Bodega Bay for the Birds. Also Howard the Duck was filmed up there.

Hitchcock also filmed parts of Vertigo at the Mission in nearby San Juan Bautista, and also at Carmel beach. Oh and his first American movie, “Rebecca” was flimed in Pt. Lobos near Carmel 🙂

I have a nagging feeling that there are other Hitchcock films done in NorCal, anyone know which.
I also have a nagging feeling that I’m going to try and do an even 50 posts tomorrow also. That will make it 4 days in a row.

We are probably not going through SF. I dont feel comfortable enough driving through it (call me a "city with bad street planning and wretched traffic"phobe). We’ll probably go along the eastbay. Pat is my navigator (it’s my first time driving that far north).

Wow, what a coincidence. I just watched Rebecca for the first time last night (thank god for netlix, I am finally watching all those old movies I’ve always meant to rent)!
I thought parts of it looked very Central Coast.
Hitchcock filmed parts of Shadow of a Doubt in Santa Rosa I believe.
Also, if memory serves me well, Hitchcock hated location shoots because they were harder to control. As a result he frequently stuck to sound stages and studio lots even when it wasn’t such a good idea.
