I thought Dick’s said that they were going to do this after Sandy Hook? ---

Actually, this is a gun control measure I could get behind - minimum possession age of 21. Under that age one could possess a shotgun or hunting rifle with a magazine capacity of 5 (or some low number) only if they are actively hunting, licensed to do so and hunting with an adult 21 or older, who is also licensed, or under the supervision of the adult gun owner at an approved firing range. Of course, possession on private property with permission of the property owner would be excepted. Possession of any weapon by someone under age 21 under any other circumstances would result in a misdemeanor charge AND confiscation of the weapons(s). ---

Dick’s Sporting Goods should definitely pass that legislation! Would the Walmart Parliament follow suit? ---

Given the pun in the title, all I can think of is how when my son started playing little league baseball and needed a protective cup for his crotch I was howling at the idea that we should get it at Dick’s Sporting Goods. ---

As long as Dick’s takes a hard stance on this position, and doesn’t go soft, I think they will come out ahead. ---

I’m amazed at how many Dopers seem blissfully unaware that this is a regular pattern for Dick’s: loud, public proclamations that they’re not going to sell evil black rifles, followed up by some quiet reversion sometime down the road. ---

Regular pattern? Got cites? It was pointed out upthread that Post Sandy Hook, Dick’s did make proclamations, removed product and later sold said product in their Field and Stream stores. I wouldn’t call that a pattern. If Dick’s does back track down the road, then they will lose my business. Anyhoo, the kids and I are ready to do some shopping solidarity tomorrow. ---

A pattern? All I’ve seen is that they said the same thing after Sandy Hook but a year later opened a new chain that did sell “assault style” weapons. Now they are shutting down sales in that chain too. Can you flesh out the “pattern” for us blissfully unaware folks? ---
