It’s been abnormally dry around here for several weeks. I was very close to calling the sheriff last night. Our association hires a pyrotechnic firm every July3. Nice, mellow hi in the sky great colors and not very loud. After their show was done, a local started his show. Holy shit! Ive never seen anything like it except on the evening news. Okay loud, that’s given also fast and furious there must’ve been a million explosions. At first okay fun then it got really seriously heavy heavy firing. It sounded like 500 rounds going off at once and at ground zero at least a 1/4 mile from where I sat my jawed dropped, huge balls of fire lifting off every 2 seconds. This went on for a good 15 minutes. He must’ve burned through 5k or more in fireworks. I think they lost control of it and that’s why it all burned up so fast. No fires though but it was in deep sand bank. Right next to the lake assholes. ---

I used to buy the biggest mortar-style fireworks I could when the kids were younger. I believe I followed all proper safety protocols. It was a lot of fun. Then in the last 5-7 years one of our local tv weathermen lost an eye in a fireworks accident, and a firework landed on a house in our neighborhood, burning it to the ground. I don’t mess with fireworks anymore. ---

One of my mother’s brothers lost three fingers from his right hand when he was very young. Not his fault – some other punk tossed a lit firecracker at him and it landed on a fold in his jacket. He went to brush it off and POW, only leaving thumb and pinkie. ---

One reason I’m glad not to be living where we were. Every year it turned into a combat zone, with big air bursts and rockets, and a terrorized cat slinking about on her belly, and me having PTSD moments. I know there are controlled air shows tonight, but those are far enough away that I can enjoy them, and the cat can sleep through them (hopefully). I guess there must have been injuries when I was a kid, but never to anybody I knew or went to school with. And we were setting off M-80s and cherry bombs in those days, along with smaller stuff, and shooting at each other with Roman candles. Too stupid to get hurt, I guess. ---

Fireworks have been oddly absent so far today. Just getting dark here so hell may be unleashed shortly. Heard a lot of people shooting guns today but that’s normal for a weekend (+) around here. As I was typing this I heard the first fireworks today. ---

Hmmmm… Now fully dark and surprisingly no fireworks. Shortly after I moved out here, in 2014, it was like a war zone on the Fourth. Wonder if people are not spending money on fireworks because the cost of everything else is sky high. Seems like the logical explanation. ---

I once had a neighbor (next door upstairs renter) that used to play the _worst_ music very loud on Saturday and Sunday nights – then one early Sunday morning we woke up to the (next door downstairs renter) playing Souza marches at full volume. ---

A five year old running around with a molten metal stick with really pointy ends seems like a bad idea looking back. I think that’s the only firework injury I ever saw as a kid, people stepping on hot, used sparklers. ---
