DB, here are 16 cities I rattled off of the top of my head all of which are bigger than Columbus. They are in no particular order, and are not inclusive of all the cities that may also be larger than Columbus. Just wondering where you got your data. I was suprised to see that Columbus is larger than both Cincinati and Cleveland. Please correct me if I’m mistaken.

## You missed the entire point of my post, I meant that of all the places that a stupid song like that would likely be played, #1 was Europe, America a distant second, then San Francisco where stupid music is almost embraced, and last on the list someplace as normal as Columbus. What made you think I was slamming your culture? You’re the one who has it on the radio!

Omni–you’re thinking metropolitan area, not city limits. In Metro area, Columbus is 30th, but we’re only city limits and a handful of suburbs. Cinci has a few other towns in Ohio and seemingly half of Kentucky as part of their metropolitan area, and Cleveland’s consists of most of NE Ohio. There’s not much around Columbus but Columbus, but Columbus itself is pretty big.

I was in Europe in late sumer and it was EVERYWHERE and I am quite distressed that it got here (the video here is different than the one they had in Austria and Belgium, anyway, which I find strange). So maybe I win as first in line?
Closely related: At the same time happened that jolly song by the guy who samples all of a Perez Prado song in the song which goes something like "a little mon-ays all I need, a little bit of hon-ays…yaddah yaddah. (don’t know his name-- he’s doing FOX commercials now). The first time I saw him/heard the song he was performing on a Vienna talk-show. I’m thinking, “Oh, this black American dude and the Austrians are going nuts about it…” After the song the hostess goes up to him and asks something along the lines of “Naja, was denken Sie Uber den blah blah blah…” I found this interesting-- how the HELL is he going to understand this? And he quickly answered, “Na, ich bin in Belin geboren, und als ich…” The guy was frikkin born in Berlin of all things. I was suprised and amused.

Yeah, I knew I’d rile up some Europeans with my comment. And hey, I even woke up some Canadians.
Well both have some good bands/artists here and there, but I still think American music still whoops overall. A lot of Canadian music tends to be a bit too campy for me. And he tongue-in-cheek band names are a little trite.
But don’t be too offended, guys. At least you’re not Japan. When Shonen Knife is your culture’s proudest musical acheivement, something’s wrong. 😃

I still haven’t heard this “Da ba dee” song. Are they playing it in the NE (I’m in Albany)?
**Scoobysnax** , on your “bad” list, you forgot Corey Hart, Platinum Blonde and Gowan.
The Hip are the best and for **Alphagene** to lump them in the “campy” category is a little harsh. They’re the best live band I’ve seen.
Barenaked Ladies are campy, but they write great songs.

I heard the song for the first time on Sunday, and I hate it. Of course.
On the silly Big Cities argument: you might be surprised to see the actual population numbers for these cities. For instance, San Francisco is actually not that large a city (pop. 700,000). San Jose is quite a lot larger (easily more than a million people) - SF simply happens to be the hub of a major metropolitan area. And _Fresno_ is larger than _Atlanta_.

As **Uncle Thomist** mentioned, Z100 in NYC’s been playing it for a while now. What I love is the spoof the radio station did, called “Flu.” It starts off:
“ACHOO!
My snot is green, I might die
And now there’s crust in my eye…”
(repeat 2nd & third lines for the rest of the chorus)
It’s actually a full-length parody. Sorry there’s no link to the station’s web page - the putzes haven’t made the song available.

The song is called “Blue.” (Someone already mentioned this)
It has to be the most inane song ever written. “My dog is blue, and my shirt is blue, and I went to the store, and it was blue…Za ba doo bee ba boo da…”
Yep. That’s about the size of it. Oh, and they play it ALL day here in Phoenix.

Regarding Canadian music, I thought I’d post an idea I had a few years ago–
Dr. J’s Proposal for Canadian Content Laws in the US
As I understand it, half of the music played on the radio in Canada has to be of Canadian origin, presumably to help keep them from becoming USA North.
So I made two mental lists of bands/musicians from Canada:
Worth listening to: Rush, Neil Young, Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies (who I add tenatively–they are very easily played to death)
Not worth listening to: Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain
I’m leaving many acts out, I’m sure, but it seemed that for every bad Canadian band I could think of, I could come up with a good one. So I could postulate that about half of Canadian music is worth listening to.
What does this mean for Canadian radio? If they distribute the Canadian acts evenly (that is, not all-Shania-and-no-Rush) over the 50%, that means that 25% of the music on Canadian radio is worth listening to even if the entire American half is utter crap.
I would then maintain that nowhere near 25% of the music on American radio is worth listening to.
Therefore, I propose that the USA adopt Canadian Content Laws similar to those found in Canada. It can’t hurt.
While I’m at it, I further propose the Faith Hill Act, which bans the re-making of great songs if you’re only going to destroy them. The Act is named in honor of Faith Hill’s pop-country cover of Janis Joplin’s “Piece of My Heart”, which will make any good rock fan’s small intestine jump out of his gut and try to strangle him.
Similarly indicted under this bill would be Lenny Kravitz for his “American Woman” and Madonna for her recent “American Pie”, which I have yet to hear but fear I will be unable to avoid it. (I also understand that Leann Rimes did “Purple Rain” on a recent album, which would be grounds for execution.)

I live in Chicago and we’ve had this song for a while now. And I’ll be the first in line to admit that I like it. You should hear the rest of the CD, it’s awesome. It’s catchy and fun and something you can always dance to. Some of it can be a little strange and quite random (for instance, “My Console” which talks about playing playstation) but again, very catchy and can lift your spirits. I went through some pretty bad weeks and if I ever felt like a dance, it could definately put me on my feet. Just thought I’d let ya’ll know. 🙂

I guess I’m the second to admit I like it, then. But I like all sorts of music and things that nobody else seems to like. I am probably the only person left on the face of the Earth who likes Blue, Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” and Cher’s “Believe.”
Then again, I’m a newfangled up-to-no-good punk teenager who does evil mischeif all day like…errr…computer programming, and…reading, and…ummm…
Anyway, regarding “Blue”…try singing the song like regular, only replace the word “blue” with the longest or funniest color word you can think of. Like “beige,” or “aquamarine.”

Uh huh, sure dem, that’s why you asked if anyone liked the song in chat ;). heh, kidding meng! Anyway I really dont like the song. I could like it if you took away all of the vocals and just left the instrumentals. I generally hate eurodance, But I do like Basement Jaxx (House music dj’s from England). Generally, most euro-dance has cheesy lyrics which turn me off (especially silly raps like the Blue song has)
