Don’t think of Simon Pegg as a comic…though he is one, and he’s very funny…but he’s also a really great actor. I think he’s going to be wonderful for the part. He played serious roles (and kick ass roles) in Hot Fuzz, Doctor Who, and a small bit in Band of Brothers. He can do acting that’s not all yucks and comic relief. ---

The respect-which nobody else gives Spock in this episode-in that line is just so cool. ---

I remember the howls when she was cast from people who thought she’d turn TNG into Comic Relief, but Guinan actually turned out to be a very interesting and well-played character and one of TNG’s most memorable. I was impressed Whoopi was able to tone it down and play the role seriously. ---

Their first meeting was in the 19th century from Guinan’s point of view. Picard is left behind in the 19th century with an injured Guinan and stabilizes her so she will survive. Guinan, aware they would meet again in the 24th century, of course resolves to seek out Picard and take her position in Ten-Forward on the Enterprise-D in order to preserve the timeline. Picard himself, of course, doesn’t become aware of this until the mission in the 24th century that sends the crew back to 19th century San Francisco. Of course, that is just my impression of events, and not necessarily in step with canon. But I doubt there are too many other friendships where one party has known the other party for 500 years longer than the second party has known the first. ---
