Thought about nail boards as well. But they would probably snatch me before the bear. When you are ass deep in snowballs at 4am, you can forget where the door handle is.

He only put them up when they were not staying at the cabin. When they were at the cabin, he had the dog for an early warning device, and a .375 magnum as a deterrent.

My doggie alarms do get ignored sometimes. They will bark at the deer and moose that we don’t care about.

The .375Mag is quite the cannon. I’ve a somewhat rare Marlin 336er in .356win. The .357 or 30-30 also gets their attention. But then I’m talking Black Bear, Not Grizzly. Whole nother kettle of fish that is.

And was glad that here in Iowa we only have trash pandas, owls and coyotes to really worry about. (Black bears, cougars, moose and exotics are rarities … skunks usually don’t spray, rattlers are scarce in my area)… people OTOH… which lead to
