My friends all must’ve bought the 45 single of Help! and played it to death, because while working on our treehouse, Scott sang “I’m down” and Kubbie answered with “I’m really dowwwn…” Will: “I’m down…” Me: “Down on the grounnnnd…”
And then we cracked up so hard that Will fell, which caused Scott to sing “How can you laugh, when you know I’m down? Cause you make Will laugh, and he falls to the ground!”
(If that’s confusing, “I’m Down” was the B-side to the single of Help! in the US)
Now you can get their UK albums, their UK albums in Mono. and their US albums. Does a compilation album made up of studio recordings count as a “studio album”?
True. I was thinking of the experience of the typical record buyer, who doesn’t buy *every *available album by a group. My experience of each Beatles recording projectwas colored by the US versions of the LPs.
Actually, I DID get to know “The Inner Light” as a ten-year-old, thanks to the delightful LP Rarities, issued by Capitol (US) in 1980.
In this day and age of careful production, packaging and release it’s jarring to find out what Capitol did way back when. Not only the scrambling of tracks between the U.S. / U.K. versions but world-wide there were other differences including the mixes which can be quite different.
