God, that’s scary news. But medical science is wonderful at catching and fixing.

Regrettably, about the only thing that can be done is (apparently) some types of medication and the implantation of a defibrillator to deal with any heart rhythm problems.

That’s really rough. Condolences. My wife and all three kids have really curly hair, but no signs of heart disease. A high percentage of Ashkenazy Jews do. My father’s was almost kinky although mine was, when I had any, relatively straight.

The 40 year old son of a good friend collapsed in the middle of a hockey game. By the time they got him off the ice, he was dead. No obvious cause.

Yep. That was one of the tip-offs - my dad’s family tree is littered with people simply dropping dead around 30 or even earlier for no apparent reason. It really sucks when the first obvious symptom of a problem is sudden death.
