The 40 year old son of a good friend collapsed in the middle of a hockey game. By the time they got him off the ice, he was dead. No obvious cause.

Yep. That was one of the tip-offs - my dad’s family tree is littered with people simply dropping dead around 30 or even earlier for no apparent reason. It really sucks when the first obvious symptom of a problem is sudden death.
