(Don’t you dare add another word to my title, even in your head!)
Woke up after a particularly sleepless night. I was half awake all night.
Of course I can’t do anything first except feed the cats. Then I’m allowed coffee. I let the dogs out on the deck. I aint walking yet. They can go pee on the grass.
Holy crap, Son-of-a-wrek drives up. He brings me a card and a plant. Sweet. Til I opened the card I didn’t even realize it was Mothers day. I’m ditzy. How did I miss this. It’s announced there will be a fish-fry at the Wrek, jr. house. Mr.Wrekker is planning a trip to Texas. He’s was to leave today. That’s been pushed back. The lil’wrekkers home from school. She’ll hang around til Monday morning. Middle daughter isn’t here. I gotta a text from her.
You know, I love Sundays. Or I used to love Sundays. It was always a nice lazy day. I could catch up on sleep, laundry or reading. Whatever. Now it seems like people plan the biggest things on Sunday. I’m required to attend the fish-fry. I have to rub elbows with my DILs Mother, Sister and Grandmother. I barely know these people. I’m sure they think I’m a crazy person. In fact, I know they think that. I guess that’s ok, I’m resigned to the fact I’m considered eccentric. That doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it.
I have to gather up some kinda gifts for these people. I’m an artist I’m always working on 4 things at once. I have some little plaques I’ve painted with words of wisdom. Mostly, Beatle song snippets.
Grandma gets: Let it Be
Mother gets: yeah, yeah, yeah
DIL and Sis get: Come Together
Does that seem right? I tied a pink bow on each.
I actually have to get dressed today. This is gonna be a problem. Too warm for jeans. Shorts? Nah. Vetoed.
Capris? I haven’t seen any since last October. I gots some diggin’ to do. Off to the closet.
Happy Moms day to those that care. Busy Sunday for everyone else.

Does this mean I’m a bad bad son for declining to dine with the family this Mom’s Day? I share your feelings about any holiday spent with strangers labeled “inlaws”. Thus I will limit my crowing about not having to deal with that any more to this sentence.

Sorry, but the phrase “bad mother” just sounds incomplete without those final two syllables! So my brain just automatically adds them. Can’t be helped. Happy Mother’s Day anyway! 🙂

I think you should capitalize on your reputation for eccentricity. Periodically, stand up and shout, “Is there a bustle in your hedge row?” or maybe, “I could tell that was a toupee a mile away, Howard Cosell!” Voila! No more barbecues!
I"m grateful my son and his wife brought Mother’s Day brunch to me. They also warned me in advance they were doing all the clean-up. I tried to convince them cleaning up was a Mother’s Day tradition for me, but they weren’t buying it. I miss the days when my kids were easier to BS.
I hope you had a wonderful time. Don’t think you fooled us for a minute with this “bad, bad mother” jazz.
