I got a new mattress and I bought a bed in a bag set to go with everything. It came with a comforter, flat sheet, fitted sheet, 2 pillowcases, 2 shams and a bedskirt. What a pain in the butt the bedskirt is, it seems pretty useless too. Does anyone really use them ? ---

I do. It’s a great way to hide all the crap I shove under my bed when I’m cleaning. ---

I like them. They allow you to hide stuff under the bed. But they are a pain if you switch comforters for the seasons. ---

I dislike the look of bare box springs especially since the colors are so limited. So yes, I use a bed skirt. ---

What they said. When I still used a mattress/box spring I always had a bedskirt. But now that we have nothing but futons in this house, the question is MOOT! ---

I use one too - for the reasons listed above. Where would I hide my extensive shoe collection if it wasn’t for the bedskirt? ---

I bought mine in a neutral color, and it hides stuff under the bed and makes it a little tidier so you don’t see the box springs. I don’t think I would use a patterned one that matched the comforter. ---

I really like how they look, but admit I usually end up doing away with them. My matching comforter will get faded from washing, and so they don’t match as well. Hmm, guess I could use that as an excuse to buy new bedding? Or, I’ll have an extra long one that seems to be intent upon being eaten by the vacuum. ---

I do. It makes it a lot easier for me to put a bunch of stuff under my bed. The only one I have doesn’t match any of my other beddingly, since I bought it separately, but I don’t care. ---

I do. Never saw the use in it until my dog got too big to crawl under my bed, which used to be her favorite napping spot. Now she just covers herself with the bedskirt. ---

Over here they’re called _valances_, and one purpose they serve is to enable TV presenters introducing [Holly Valance](http://www.holly-valance.net/) to regurgitate the tired gag “she’s the kind of valance you’d want draped over your bed fellas…” ---

I like my bedskirt. A few months ago I was sick and spilled tea all over it. I pulled it off to wash it, but didn’t have the energy to put it back on. The bed looked unfinished and unattractive without it. As soon as I had enough energy, I put it back on. Besides, it hides my dust bunny collection. ---

I use 'em also, to hide the stuff I’ve shoved under the bed. (Two steamer suitcases, three large rolling duffels, who knows how many dust bunnies.) I just use a neutral solid color (currently using black), and toss it in the wash when it gets too full of cat hair. * * * \<\< Ahh. Wha? \>\> ---

I thought valances were only on windows. Just goes to show… Our bedroom is about the size of a large closet. There is no room for anything but sleeping and sexing. I really don’t care what it looks like, so no, I don’t do the bedskirt. Maybe some day I’ll try it. ---

Ick. No - never had one and wouldn’t want one. Don’t like 'em. To cover the boxspring, I buy a cheap fitted sheet in whatever contrasting color I want. Looks nice and is easily replaceable. I also can’t stand anything under my bed, so there’s no need to hide the storage space I don’t use. But that’s me. Thought I’d enter a dissenting opinion. Snicks ---

Bedskirt (properly named dust ruffle – I think)…now there’s an idea. But don’t go half-assed. You will also need a pillow sham. And a few doilies for your night table. ---
